Romantic Things to Do in Tbilisi

Travel notice, October 2026. The British FCDO advises against all travel to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which are under Russian occupation, and against all but essential travel to areas beside their boundary lines. In Tbilisi, anti-government protests have gone on for well over a year around the Parliament on Rustaveli Avenue. They have sometimes turned violent, mostly on Saturday evenings and anniversaries, so plan romantic evenings away from them. Check the FCDO advice for Georgia and travel.state.gov before you book.

A romantic trip to Tbilisi is built from small, slow evenings rather than grand gestures: hot mineral water, amber wine and a view of the lit city. The plan below spreads three of them across a long weekend, then adds an optional night in the wine country. Prices are in lari (GEL), come from secondary guides and should be checked first.

Evening one: natural wine

Start with wine, because the city’s wine bars are small and relaxed. Vino Underground, at 15 Galaktion Tabidze Street, and Wine Factory N1, at 1 Petriashvili Street, both open in the evening. Georgian amber wine is made from white grapes fermented with their skins in buried clay vessels called qvevri, and a bartender will usually pour a few for comparison. Take a taxi or ride-hailing app home late.

Evening two: a private bath room

The sulphur bathhouses of Abanotubani rent private rooms by the hour, and the price covers the room, not each person. Bath No. 5 asks about 120 to 200 GEL for a private room. Gulo’s Thermal Spa charges about 150 to 300 GEL, takes bookings by phone or Messenger and is open until 03:00. Chreli Abano ranges from about 130 to 600 GEL, depending on the room, and can be booked online through its official site . A kisa, the vigorous scrub with a rough mitt, adds about 15 to 30 GEL and is usually paid in cash. The water is warm and has a mineral smell, so allow time to cool down before dinner. Book ahead for evenings and weekends. The Queen’s Bath is closed for refurbishment.

Evening three: the city from above

Ride up Mount Mtatsminda before sunset and stay as the lights come on. The funicular from Chonkadze Street has run since 1905, and a cableway from Rustaveli Avenue has been open since October 2024. Both need a Mtatsminda Park card, about 2 GEL, plus about 10 to 12 GEL for each one-way ride. Take the funicular if your evening falls on a Saturday, since the cableway starts on the avenue where protests are most likely. Afterwards, walk the Bridge of Peace, the glass-and-steel footbridge that opened in 2010 and glows with LED lights after dark.

Optional night in Sighnaghi

Sighnaghi is about 110 km east of the capital, roughly two hours by road. It sits on a ridge over the Alazani Valley, with a restored wall and 23 towers, small wine cellars and quiet streets once day visitors leave. Practical notes

Cards work in the centre, but carry lari for kisa tips, taxis and small cafes. Dress comfortably for the steep, uneven streets in Old Town, and take care on the wet bathhouse floors.
