Couples Weekends in Tsaghkadzor
Travel advice dated 31 October 2026: the UK government advises against all travel within 5 km of the Azerbaijan border in eastern Armenia and on the M16/H26 road between Ijevan and Noyemberyan, and the US rates Armenia at Level 2. Neither Tsaghkadzor nor Lake Sevan falls inside them. Read gov.uk and travel.state.gov before you travel, and avoid night driving on mountain roads.
Romance in Tsaghkadzor means mountain air, a spa, a good table and an unhurried chairlift ride, not a lakeside resort. The town is not on the water and has no waterpark. It is a ski resort about 55 km from Yerevan, so the best weekends here are slow ones built around a hotel. Below is one way to shape two days, with notes for winter and summer.
Where to stay
Booking-site listings show three spa hotels. Check current availability before you plan around any of them.
- Tsaghkadzor Marriott Hotel is on the northern edge of town and listed with an indoor pool, spa and tennis court. Say “near the slopes” when asking about distance to the lifts, because listings differ.
- Golden Palace Hotel Resort and Spa, on Tandzaghbyur Street, is listed with a sauna and spa.
- Grace Kecharis SPA Hotel, on Orbeli Brothers Street, has a spa.
Saturday
Late morning: the chairlift. The ropeway runs daily from 10:00 to 17:30, and the ride to the top at 2,819 m takes about 32 minutes. Pick a clear day, since the views from the top depend on clear weather, and carry a windproof layer because the summit is cold in every season. The lifts stop at 17:30, so do not plan a sunset ride. Afternoon: a walk through the woods. In snow or in sun, an easy walk up the hillside to the Kecharis churches is free and takes you through trees. Daylight is short in winter, so go early, and dress modestly at the monastery, with shoulders and knees covered.
Evening: dinner. Restaurants named in local guides include Yasaman and Karas on Orbeli Brothers Street at no. 8, Pur at no. 18, and Craftsmen’s Tsaghkadzor Restaurant House, which has a fireplace and a summer terrace and is open year round. No menus or prices are published here, so ask your hotel to book a table.
Sunday
Spend the morning at the hotel spa, then drive to the Sevan peninsula, about 22 to 25 km and 20 to 40 minutes away, for an evening stop at Sevanavank before the road back. Sevan water is cool to cold, so plan on a stroll, not a swim, and watch for sudden winds. Keep to the usual peninsula road and do not drive the eastern shore beyond Vardenis.
By season
- Winter. Snow, short days and a warm spa suit couples who do not ski. Roads are in poor condition, particularly from November to February, so travel in daylight.
- Summer. The chairlift and a slow meal outdoors on a terrace are the main pleasures,.
