4 Days in Aarhus, with a Legoland Day
Four days is enough to add a real day trip on top of Aarhus’s walkable core: three days for the Cathedral, ARoS, Den Gamle By, Moesgaard and Marselisborg, then a full day at Legoland Billund. Day 1: The Cathedral, ARoS, and the Latin Quarter
Morning
Walk the Latin Quarter’s old streets, then visit Aarhus Cathedral (Domkirke), Denmark’s longest and tallest church, its roughly 93-metre nave holding more medieval fresco work than any other Danish church.
Afternoon
Spend the afternoon at ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum for Your Rainbow Panorama, Ólafur Elíasson’s rooftop rainbow-glass walkway. Check current admission at aros.dk .
Evening
Dinner along Åboulevarden, expect roughly 120-180 DKK for a casual meal.
Tip: visit ARoS in the late afternoon once the morning tour groups have thinned out.
Day 2: Den Gamle By and the harbour
Morning
Den Gamle By, roughly 75 real relocated historic buildings, recreates a Danish market town across several centuries, right beside the free Botanical Garden greenhouses.
Afternoon
Head to Aarhus Ø (the Docklands) for the triangular Isbjerget building and Dokk1, Scandinavia’s largest public library.
Evening
Dinner at Aarhus Street Food, roughly 80-150 DKK a dish.
Tip: combine Den Gamle By and the Botanical Garden, they’re next door to each other.
Day 3: Moesgaard and Marselisborg
Morning
Bus south to Moesgaard Museum (MOMU) for the Grauballe Man, an Iron Age bog body found in 1952 preserved well enough that his fingerprints survive.
Afternoon
Continue to Marselisborg’s palace park, Deer Park, and forest running down to the beach.
Evening
If it’s April-October, Tivoli Friheden amusement park is an easy evening stop; otherwise a Frederiksbjerg New Nordic dinner covers the slot.
Tip: wear real walking shoes, Moesgaard’s grass-roof walk-up and Marselisborg’s forest are both longer on foot than they look on a map.
Day 4: Legoland Billund
Morning
Head west roughly 1-1.25 hours to Legoland, the original park, opened in 1968 beside the LEGO factory itself and Billund Airport. Miniland is built from more than 25 million bricks.
Afternoon
Give the rides and Miniland a full afternoon, this is a whole-day trip, not a half-day add-on, most visitors underestimate how much of the park there is to see.
Evening
Head back to Aarhus for a final dinner, or treat this as your departure day if you’re flying out of Billund itself.
Tip: buy Legoland tickets online before you drive out, especially in summer, walk-up queues at the gate run long on peak days.
Getting around and where to stay
Days 1-3 are walkable or a short Letbane ride; day 4 needs a car, bus, or an organised tour. Stay in the city centre or Latin Quarter, check rates on Booking.com . Denmark uses the krone (DKK), not the euro.
One concrete tip: if you’re flying home via Billund, do Legoland on your last day rather than looping back to Aarhus afterward, it saves a full return trip.
