Day Trips From Cusco, By Real Distance
Two Cusco day trips can sit five times further apart than their listings suggest, and Tambomachay and Tipon are the clearest example of it.
Near-city ruins: Sacsayhuaman, Q’enqo, Puka Pukara, Tambomachay
Sacsayhuaman is about 2km from the historic center, and Tambomachay, the furthest stop on this loop, is still only around 8km out. All four are covered by the Boleto Turistico and make a genuine half-day, walkable or a short taxi ride away, the closest option on this whole list.
Sacred Valley: Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Maras and Moray
Pisac sits around 33km out, Chinchero about 30km, Ollantaytambo 60-72km, and Maras and Moray together roughly 45-50km, a genuine full-day loop rather than a quick add-on. Moray’s circular terraces and Maras’s salt pans sit close together and pair naturally in one visit.
South Valley: Tipon, Pikillacta, Andahuaylillas
Tipon sits about 23km from Cusco and Pikillacta about 32km, a pre-Inca, Wari-built site rather than an Inca one, both belonging to a separate, quieter South Valley route from the Sacred Valley above. Andahuaylillas, around 40km out, holds the frescoed San Pedro church nicknamed the Sistine Chapel of the Americas, worth the extra distance on the same route.
Rainbow Mountain

Humantay Lake
Around 4,200m, a shorter drive than Rainbow Mountain but still a demanding high-altitude day; acclimatize in Cusco first before attempting it.
Machu Picchu as a “day trip”
