Day Trips From New Delhi by Train and Road
Which day trip suits you depends on the weekday, the season and how much time you want to spend on the road. These notes lay out each option in terms of distance, transport and what to check first.
Agra: the full-day train option
Distance: about 230 km. Transport: the Gatimaan Express.

The train runs six days a week and not on Fridays; see the timetable and confirm on IRCTC before booking. The Taj Mahal itself is closed to visitors on Fridays, which makes Saturday to Thursday the working window. Foreigners pay Rs 1,100 for entry plus Rs 200 for the main mausoleum, as shown on the Taj Mahal ticketing page . Agra Fort is open on Fridays, and a foreigner ticket there is about Rs 650. Opening hours follow the sun, from around 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset.
Sultanpur National Park: birds in winter
Distance: about 45 km, in Gurugram. The park is a wetland that attracts migratory birds from November to February. Opening hours are usually 07:00 to 16:30, and it is closed on Tuesdays. Ask at the gate for the entry fee. There is no public rail link, so most visitors take an app cab and agree the return trip in advance.
Surajkund: crafts in February
Surajkund is in Faridabad. Its International Crafts Mela is normally held during the first half of February, and that is the best reason to go. The rest of the year, it is a quiet reservoir area.
Neemrana Fort-Palace
Distance: about 120 km southwest in Rajasthan, on the road towards Jaipur. The fort is a heritage hotel, and a zip-line operates on the grounds. Check hotel and zip-line terms directly, since rates and day-visit rules differ by season. Travel by road takes roughly two and a half to three hours each way.
What to check before choosing
- The weekday: Fridays rule out the Taj Mahal and the Gatimaan.
- The season: in the months from mid-October to January, haze and poor air can spoil outdoor stops and bird-watching.
- The visa: apply only on the official e-visa portal at indianvisaonline.gov.in .
If you would rather stay in the city
A day split between Mehrauli’s monuments and Qutub Minar, or between Old Delhi and the Red Fort, needs no long transfer. The Red Fort is open every day since February 2026.
