Attraction Tour Options in Mumbai
Picking a guided tour in Mumbai comes down to three questions: how much walking you want, whether you care about seeing inside a building, and how much you plan to spend. The five options below run from a weekend bus ride to a half-day community walk. Amounts are in Indian rupees (INR), roughly 95 to the US dollar, and anything marked as unconfirmed needs a quick message to the operator before you commit.
The five options side by side
| Option | Format | Price signal |
|---|---|---|
| BEST heritage bus | Weekend ride on an electric double-decker | Fares reported in 2023: INR 75 and INR 150 |
| Inside-CSMT walk | About 1.5 hours and 1.5 km | Not listed |
| Dharavi community walk | 2 hours 30 minutes, guide only | From about INR 1,600 |
| Khaki Tours | Heritage walks and jeep tours | Not confirmed |
| Film City visit | Studio access by prior permission | No public price |
BEST heritage bus: the low-cost start
The city bus operator BEST runs a heritage tour on an air-conditioned electric double-decker, on weekends only. Tickets are sold digitally through the Chalo app and nowhere else. At launch in 2023 the lower deck cost about INR 75 and the upper deck about INR 150, so look at the app for today’s figure. The open-deck diesel buses that once did this job were retired in October 2025, which means a closed, cooled upper deck is what you get now. India.com’s launch report covers the vehicle and the route idea.
A walk inside the terminus
Mumbai Walking Tours, run by Raconteur, leads a walk of about 1.5 hours and roughly 1.5 km through Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. F. W. Stevens designed the station, it was finished in 1887-88 and UNESCO listed it in 2004. Because trains still run through it, the group threads between commuters, so stay close to the guide. The terminus was among the places attacked in November 2008, and a quiet manner suits it. No fee is published, so ask when you enquire.
Dharavi with a guide
Dharavi is a working neighbourhood of potters, recyclers and textile units, and the only sensible way in is with a guide. Reality Tours and Travel is the operator named most often. Its own site says cameras are not allowed, out of respect for residents’ privacy, and that guests receive a link to download photos after the walk. It also states that 80 per cent of its post-tax profits go to its charity, Reality Gives.
The listed prices on the operator’s Dharavi page start at about INR 1,600 for the 2 hour 30 minute walk. Versions with a pottery workshop or a family lunch start near INR 2,400, a car transfer pushes it to about INR 3,500 and a city sightseeing add-on to about INR 5,000. A second page on the same site shows INR 2,350 to INR 2,750 per person for shared and private tours, so confirm the final figure at booking. Children of any age are welcome, but the operator lists low roofs, open drains, exposed wiring and fumes, so wear closed shoes and decide as a parent. Group size and the meeting point are sent with the confirmation. A large redevelopment is under way in the area.
Khaki Tours
Khaki Tours was founded by Bharat Gothoskar and has offered heritage walks and jeep tours since about 2015, according to secondary sources. No price has been confirmed. When you write, ask what the route covers, how long it takes and what happens if heavy rain closes streets.
Film City
Film City in Goregaon East is a working studio, not a theme park. Its official site lists no public tour or ticket price and points visitors to an external tours site, and entry needs prior permission. Be wary of any fixed price you meet online.
Questions worth asking before you pay
- What is included, and are entry tickets extra?
- How many people join, and where does the group meet?
- What is the plan when the weather turns? June to September brings waterlogged roads and high-tide warnings along the seafront.
- Can the guide confirm the route stays clear of the sea wall and rocks at high tide?
Reaching the meeting point
Under the fares in force since 1 September 2026, a taxi meter starts at about INR 33 and an auto meter at about INR 27. Autos do not run in the island city, so in South Mumbai a black-and-yellow taxi is the option; autos work from roughly Bandra and Sion northwards.
