Jaipur for Couples on Any Budget
Romance in Jaipur does not need a palace budget, though the palace is there if you want it.
Free: the lake, the gate and the gardens
The Jal Mahal promenade on Amer Road costs nothing. The Water Palace floats in Man Sagar Lake against the Aravalli hills and lights up after dark. The palace is a view from the shore, so ten minutes is enough, and it fits well between a fort and dinner. Jawahar Circle’s rose gardens and the hand-painted Patrika Gate, built in 2016, are free and quiet in the morning. Hawa Mahal looks best from a rooftop cafe opposite, where a sunrise chai gives you the 953 honeycomb windows with no crowd. For a calmer evening, join the aarti at Govind Dev Ji Temple, where devotional songs fill the courtyard. Dress modestly.
Around INR 600 to INR 1,000: ramparts and mirrors
Nahargarh Fort at sunset is the best-value romantic ticket in the city, at about INR 600 for foreign adults. Arrive an hour before sunset to claim a stretch of wall, and bring water. Read about the fort on Wikipedia . The ride down to the lake promenade afterward makes a tidy evening.
Amber Fort, about INR 1,000 and part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing , is most romantic when you arrive at opening time and have the Sheesh Mahal’s mirrored hall nearly to yourselves. Walk up through the Sun Gate rather than riding. Elephant rides up the hill still run, but welfare groups object and a court case about the animals is pending, so a jeep or a walk is the better choice.
Around INR 1,200 to INR 2,500: a thali dinner
A Rajasthani thali dinner for two costs roughly INR 1,200-2,500 at Chokhi Dhani, LMB or Handi. It is a cheerful night out, with baati, dal and churma in generous portions.
Splurge: the balloon and the palace table
A sunrise balloon over the Amber valley runs about INR 7,500-15,000 per person on a shared basket. Flights depend on the weather, run mainly from September to March, and are usually not flown in the monsoon. You can compare options on Viator . Book it first and keep a spare morning in case of a cancellation.
For dinner, Rambagh Palace in the city and 1135 AD at Amber Fort serve Rajasthani menus, often with live music. Expect roughly INR 5,000-12,000 or more for two. Reserve ahead and ask about the dress code.
Where to stay
A palace hotel turns the trip into an occasion, though a boutique haveli in the old city costs far less. Rooms fill early around the Jaipur Literature Festival, 14-18 January 2027.
A simple plan at each price
- Free: Jawahar Circle at 08:00, Hawa Mahal rooftop chai, Jal Mahal at dusk.
- Mid: Nahargarh at sunset, then a thali dinner.
- Splurge: balloon at dawn, Amber at opening, a palace dinner that night.
Tip: put the balloon on your last morning, so that weather delays can be absorbed. The 2-day itinerary shows how to fit the evenings together.
