2 Days in Jaipur: The First-Timer Itinerary
Two days is tight, so this route stays inside the two heaviest days Jaipur has: the hilltop fort circuit and the old city core. It skips the stepwells, the deeper bazaars, and any real rest day, add the 3-day or longer version of this same route if you can spare it.

Day 1: Amber Fort, Jaigarh Fort and a Nahargarh Sunset
- Morning (8:00am): Arrive at Amber Fort right at opening to beat the heat and the tour buses. Take the jeep up (roughly INR 500 round trip) or walk, skip the elephant ride, documented 2018 and 2020 welfare investigations found real problems with animals working that steep path daily. - Evening: Nahargarh Fort for sunset, the best elevated view of Jaipur, with the Padao rooftop cafe for a cold drink as the old city’s rooftops catch the light. Foreigner entry roughly INR 200-600.
Where to stay: base yourself in the walled Pink City or C-Scheme for easy access to tomorrow’s old-city stops.
Day 2: City Palace, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar
- Morning: City Palace, still a partial royal residence run as a museum for the rest. General admission runs roughly INR 700-1000 for foreigners, confirm at the counter. Give it 1.5-2 hours for the museums, courtyards, and the photogenic Peacock Gate.
- Late morning: Walk to Hawa Mahal, the five-story honeycomb facade with 953 windows built in 1799. The interior is a five-minute visit at most, the real photo is from a tea terrace across the street. Foreigner entry roughly INR 200-600.
- Afternoon: Jantar Mantar, Jai Singh II’s 1734 stone observatory and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. Get a guide, without one the instruments just look like stone ramps and angles. Foreigner entry roughly INR 200-600.
- Evening: Wander Johari Bazaar for jewelry and textiles, then dinner at LMB (Laxmi Mishthan Bhandar), serving ghewar and pyaaz kachori since 1954.
Is 2 days enough for Jaipur? Enough for the fort circuit and the old city core, not enough for the stepwells near Amber or real bazaar time, both need a 3-day trip at minimum. If you only have 48 hours, this order gets you the six sights that matter most without wasted backtracking.
