Multi-Day Jeju City Adventures
Jeju City is where you land, where you’ll probably sleep the first and last nights, and the best base for launching a proper multi-day loop of the island, even though most of what fills those extra days lies well outside the city itself.
The classic 3 to 5 day loop
Day one stays in Jeju City: Old Jeju around the port, Dongmun Market, the historic Mokgwana and Gwandeokjeong core. Day two heads east out of the city to Manjanggul lava tube, Seongsan Ilchulbong and, if the ferry schedule cooperates, a crossing to Udo Island. Day three goes south to Seogwipo for its waterfalls and the Jusangjeolli cliffs, both firmly outside Jeju City limits despite how often they get lumped in with it. Day four is either a Hallasan summit attempt or a swing west to Hyeopjae Beach and Aewol, depending on your legs and the weather.
Beyond the main island: Chujado
A daily high-speed ferry leaves the Jeju Coastal Ferry Terminal for the Chuja Islands, a remote, mountainous archipelago roughly midway between Jeju and the Korean mainland, known for yellow corvina fishing and genuinely rugged hiking. It’s a full-day or overnight add-on, not something you squeeze between other stops.
The single hardest day: crossing Hallasan
For hikers who want one big story from the trip, it’s possible to cross Hallasan in a single day, starting at the northern Gwaneumsa trailhead in Jeju City and descending the southern Seongpanak trail into Seogwipo, transferring your luggage ahead so you’re not carrying it over the mountain. It’s worth doing once, as a single ambitious day, but don’t repeat it on the same trip; the descent alone will remind your knees why. Plan it for spring or autumn when the trail is clear and the hours are longer.
