Traveling alone in Jeju City is genuinely easy: the transit is simple, the trails are well-marked, and nobody’s going to make you feel awkward eating dinner by yourself. Here’s how to make the most of it.
Walk the coast on Olle Trail 17
Route 17 of the Jeju Olle Trail network starts near Gwangryeong, winds past rural streams, reaches Iho Tewoo Beach, hugs the coastline past Yongduam Rock, and finishes at Dongmun Market, a full, safe, well-signed day of walking that needs no company and no car.
Let the bus do the work
The Jeju City Tour Bus connects all 21 of its stops with one hop-on hop-off day pass, which means you can sightsee independently without ever having to coordinate plans with anyone else. Just remember it’s cashless and closed on Mondays. Load a T-money card at an airport convenience store before you start, since the tour bus and the regular city buses along Olle Route 17 won’t take coins or notes, and you don’t want to be sorting out payment at the curb when a bus is already waiting.
Eat well without the group-table problem
This is the one real trap for solo diners: Black Pork Street restaurants typically require a minimum order of around one geun, roughly 600 grams and 50,000 to 65,000 KRW, built for groups splitting a grill, not for one person. Skip it solo and head to Dongmun Night Market instead, where individual stalls sell skewers, dumplings and seafood bites for 3,000 to 8,000 KRW each, no minimum, no awkwardness, and you eat exactly as much as you want.
Slow down in Chilseong-ro
When you’ve had enough walking, the pedestrian shopping street of Chilseong-ro has independent specialty coffee houses that are made for sitting alone with a book for an hour, no pressure to move on.
