The dusk Baroque loop

Trastevere, after the sun sets
Cobblestone medieval lanes, Santa Maria in Trastevere’s gold mosaics, then across the Tiber on Ponte Sisto; livelier and more atmospheric after dark than during the day. Search hotels in Trastevere if you would rather stay inside the neighborhood than cross back over the river at night.
The Jewish Ghetto
Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited Jewish quarter, established as a papal-mandated ghetto in 1555, centers on Portico d’Ottavia’s ancient Roman colonnade ruins standing directly alongside the historic quarter. The Aventine Hill
Giardino degli Aranci, the orange garden, gives a free sunset view over Trastevere and St Peter’s, right beside the Aventine Keyhole at the Knights of Malta priory, framing St Peter’s dome through a hedge tunnel across three sovereign territories in one sightline. Rome after dark, a different theme entirely
The Trevi Fountain before the crowds return, Piazza Navona at dusk, and Ponte Sant’Angelo with Castel Sant’Angelo floodlit and St Peter’s dome behind it make a genuinely distinct night route, not a repeat of the daytime Baroque loop above. The Appian Way
The original Roman road’s northern stretch is car-light and park-like, the better half for walking, pairing naturally with the San Callisto or San Sebastiano catacomb complexes underneath it; the southern stretch carries heavier traffic and suits cycling more than walking.
