Cherry blossom season (late March-early April)
Hiroshima Castle’s grounds and the Peace Memorial Park both fill with blossoms in this window, and Miyajima’s hillsides join in a little later. Exact bloom dates shift year to year with the spring weather, so check a current forecast rather than booking rigidly around a fixed date.

The 6 August Peace Memorial Ceremony
Held every year at 8:15am, the exact moment the atomic bomb detonated in 1945, this is a solemn, dignified ceremony at the Peace Memorial Park, not a festival to schedule sightseeing around. A moment of silence in the morning is followed that evening by a lantern-floating ceremony on the Motoyasu River. If your trip falls near this date, expect a different, more reflective atmosphere at the park than on an ordinary day, and plan your own visit with the same respect the occasion asks of the city itself.
Saijō Sake Matsuri (October)
A short train ride from central Hiroshima, the historic Saijō brewing district holds its annual sake festival each October, just before the brewing season begins, drawing crowds reported in the hundreds of thousands over the weekend. Confirm the exact dates locally before you plan around it, since they move within the month year to year.
Autumn foliage (especially November)
