Where to Stay in Antwerp

The historic centre and Grote Markt
The most atmospheric base, and walking distance to almost everything worth seeing: the cathedral, Het Steen, the Scheldt quays, and the restaurants of the old town. You trade a short tram or walk to Centraal Station for being in the middle of the sights. Best if this is a city-focused trip rather than a day-trip one.
Near Centraal Station and De Keyserlei
Two to seven minutes from the platforms, this is the practical base: cheaper on average, well stocked with chain hotels, and unbeatable if you are catching early trains or day-tripping. It is also close to the Diamond District. One honest note: the area directly north of the station is best avoided after dark; stick to the lit main streets, and the core itself stays fine.
Het Zuid
The artsy southern quarter is quieter and more local, with design shops, KMSKA, and good evening dining. It is a short tram from the centre and suits travellers who want a neighbourhood feel over a front-row seat to the sights.
Eilandje
The redeveloped docklands north of the centre put you by the MAS and the waterfront restaurants, with a calmer, modern feel. A little further from the old town, but walkable and increasingly popular.
Price bands for 2026
Expect roughly EUR 70 to 100 a night at the budget end, EUR 150 to 220 mid-range, and EUR 300-plus for the upper tier, with rates climbing in summer and around the December market (verify current rates at booking). Rooms near Centraal skew cheaper than the atmospheric old-town options.
Booking tips
Book ahead for May to September and the Christmas-market weeks, when the good rooms go first. Staying several days? The Antwerp City Card bundles most museum entries with public transport, which can offset the room cost. Contactless payment is accepted almost everywhere, so you rarely need much cash.
