Da Nang splits into four distinct bases, the beach strip, the city-center riverfront, the quieter Son Tra peninsula, and the airport zone, and they’re distinct enough that nothing is really walkable between them. My Khe/An Thuong, the stay-here-if-unsure default
My Khe Beach runs along the coast, and An Thuong, sometimes called “the Western Quarter,” is the walkable grid of cafes, bars, and restaurants just back from the sand, backpacker-to-boutique range with a heavy expat presence. Mid-range rooms a block or two off the beachfront run roughly $30-70 a night in shoulder season (verify, seasonal). Named properties here include Furama Resort Danang and the adjacent Pullman Danang Beach Resort, both established beachfront resorts with multiple pools, plus Hyatt Regency Danang, a large family-oriented compound with a private beach and kids’ club.
Han River/Hai Chau, the nightlife base
The urban-energy option, 5-10 minutes’ drive from the beach, with the Dragon Bridge’s weekend fire-and-water show, the night market, and the highest concentration of local restaurants and rooftop bars. Novotel Danang Premier Han River is a well-documented option right on the riverfront. This is the right base if city buzz matters more than beachfront quiet.
Son Tra, the quiet-luxury option
Home to the Lady Buddha statue and a cluster of large full-compound resorts on secluded stretches of coast, best pitched for honeymoons or travelers prioritizing seclusion over walkable nightlife. InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort sits in a genuinely secluded private bay here, and Sheraton Grand Danang and Premier Village Danang also come up repeatedly as family-resort options in this southern-beach cluster (verify current branding and ownership before booking, hotel management companies change).
Near the airport, for transit nights only
A narrow but legitimate use case, worth booking only for very early or late flights, not as a base for the trip itself. Da Nang International Airport sits only about 3-5km from the city and beach, so even a beach-strip or riverfront hotel isn’t much further from the airport than a dedicated “near the airport” property would be.
Which area is best for a first Da Nang trip?
My Khe/An Thuong, without much debate, it puts the beach, restaurants, and cafes all within walking distance, and it’s the easiest area to get a Grab from to anywhere else in the city.
Is Son Tra too far from everything else?
