Day 1: Land, Get Settled Near Centraal

Day 2: Rotterdam, Skyline and Markthal
- Ride an NS Intercity Direct from Centraal to Rotterdam Centraal, 39-41 minutes on the high-speed HSL-Zuid line, roughly EUR 19 one-way second class.
- Markthal , the horseshoe-shaped food hall with a painted ceiling, is the anchor stop; the tilted Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen) and the Erasmusbrug, nicknamed the Swan, round out a walkable loop from Centraal.
- Rotterdam was rebuilt almost entirely after WWII bombing, so treat it as a skyline-and-architecture day rather than an old-town stroll, that’s what Amsterdam itself is for.
- Head back to Centraal by early evening; if you’re flying out, the same NS train runs Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol in about 17 minutes.
Should I add Utrecht to this trip? Only if you can stretch to the 3-day version , which is where it actually fits into this route. On a 2-day trip, Rotterdam alone is genuinely enough, adding a second city day trip here means shortchanging both.
Is 2 days enough for a Randstad trip? Enough for exactly one city, Rotterdam. It’s not enough for Utrecht, The Hague and Delft, or Giethoorn on top, each of those needs its own day. If a second Randstad city matters to you, this is genuinely a 3-day trip minimum.
