3 Days in Busan, South Korea

Three days gives you Busan’s beaches, its refugee-era hillside villages and markets, plus its mountain side, without needing a day trip yet. Get a T-money card (3,000-5,000 KRW) on arrival for the metro, buses, and most taxis.
Book before you go
Day 1: Haeundae and Gwangalli
Settle in near Haeundae and spend the afternoon on Haeundae Beach, then move to Gwangalli Beach in the evening for dinner facing the illuminated Gwangan Bridge. A metro ride runs about 1,300-1,650 KRW (verify current fare), and a bowl of dwaeji gukbap, Busan’s signature pork-and-rice soup, runs roughly 8,000-10,000 KRW at most local places. Check posted flags before swimming; rip currents can be strong in season.
Day 2: Gamcheon Village and the markets
Start at Haedong Yonggungsa Temple near Gijang, a rare Korean temple built on coastal rocks, free to enter. Cross the city for the afternoon at Gamcheon Culture Village, the pastel hillside that began as a 1955 Korean War refugee shantytown before its 2009 art-village makeover; wandering is free. Finish at Jagalchi Market, Korea’s largest seafood market, and BIFF Square for ssiat hotteok, a seed-stuffed pancake running a few thousand won a piece. Carry some cash; markets lean less card-friendly.
Day 3: Beomeosa and the mountain side
Spend the morning at Beomeosa Temple, founded in 678 CE on Geumjeongsan, hiking the trail up toward the Geumjeongsanseong fortress walls if you have the legs for it, entry is modest (verify current fee). In the afternoon, head to Busan Tower in Yongdusan Park for a city view, then browse Centum City, home to BEXCO and the Shinsegae department store, the world’s largest by floor space. Book a metro-convenient stay near Seomyeon if you’re catching an early flight or KTX out the next morning.
