6 Days in Jeju: The First-Timer Itinerary
Six days is enough slack to add Udo Island as its own dedicated day rather than squeezing it into an already-packed east coast loop. This route runs the full 5-day island circuit, Jeju City, east, south, west, Hallasan, then a sixth day on Udo’s ferry-only shores. Tighter schedule? Drop to the 5-day version. Have a full week? Day 1: Jeju City
- Morning: Land at Jeju International Airport (CJU), taxi into Jeju City (about 15 minutes, roughly 9,000 KRW/~$6) or the airport bus (
1,300-1,500 KRW/$1 with a T-money card), and check in - Afternoon: Walk Dongmun Market for a first taste of the island, then pick up your rental car if you’re driving yourself, that physical IDP has to already be in your bag, Korea won’t issue one at the airport, confirm accepted IDP countries at jeju.go.kr before you book
- Evening: Dinner on Black Pork Street, the concentrated strip of restaurants built entirely around Jeju’s signature heuk-dwaeji BBQ, budget roughly 20,000-25,000 KRW (~$13-17) a person
- Overnight: Jeju City
Day 2: East loop, Seongsan and the lava tube
- Morning: Drive or bus east (roughly 1-1.5 hours) to Manjanggul lava tube, reopened 30 May 2026 after a rockfall closure, and walk the ~1km open section (entry
4,000 KRW/$3, 9am-6pm, confirm it’s still open at visitjeju.net before you go) - Midday: The Haenyeo Museum in Gujwa (
1,100 KRW/$1) for the real story behind Jeju’s free-diving women before you see any tourist-beach demonstration - Afternoon: Seongsan Ilchulbong, the UNESCO tuff cone at the island’s eastern tip, climb the 182m ascent (about 20 minutes, entry
5,000 KRW/$3.50) for the crater and coastline view, this is the single most infectious 20 minutes on the whole trip - Evening: Drive on to Seogwipo (roughly 50 minutes to 1 hour further along the south coast road)

Day 3: Seogwipo and the south coast waterfalls
- Morning: Walk to Cheonjiyeon Falls (“Pond of the Sky,”
2,000 KRW/$1.50), an easy, scenic short walk from central Seogwipo - Midday: Jeongbang Falls, one of the few waterfalls in Asia that drops directly into the ocean, genuinely worth the walk from central Seogwipo
- Afternoon: Drive 20-30 minutes west to Cheonjeyeon Falls (
2,500 KRW/$1.70) and the Jusangjeolli columnar cliffs near Jungmun (2,000 KRW/$1.50 plus a small parking fee), hexagonal basalt columns formed when Hallasan’s lava hit the sea and cooled fast - Evening: Dinner in Seogwipo, try the local hoe (raw fish) or a haemul-tang seafood stew (roughly 15,000-30,000 KRW/~$10-20)

Day 4: The west coast
- Morning: Drive northwest from Seogwipo/Jungmun to Sanbangsan, a striking lava-dome peak near the southwest coast
- Midday: Hyeopjae Beach for a swim or a walk, its turquoise water is the closest thing on Jeju to a tropical postcard, even though the island itself genuinely is not tropical
- Afternoon: Aewol’s cafe strip for a coffee break with west-coast views
- Evening: Chase sunset at Hyeopjae or Aewol, then loop back to Jeju City (roughly 40-50 minutes from Hyeopjae)
- Overnight: Jeju City
Day 5: Hallasan
- Morning: Start early on Seongpanak (9.6km one-way, 4-5 hours up) or Gwaneumsa (8.7km, steeper, more waterfalls) if you reserved a summit slot at visithalla.jeju.go.kr , or Eorimok/Yeongsil for a shorter non-summit hike that needs no reservation
- Midday: Pack lunch and water, there’s no food for sale on the mountain itself
- Afternoon: Descend well before the mandated cutoff, roughly 13:30-14:30 depending on season for the summit trails, rangers enforce this with no exceptions
- Evening: Rest, you’ll have earned it
- Overnight: Jeju City
Is Udo Island worth the ferry logistics on a Jeju trip? Yes, once you have six days to spend, it competes far less with the rest of the east coast at that pace. On a tighter 2 or 3-day trip it genuinely isn’t worth a dedicated detour, the other east-coast sights already fill that same day better.
Day 6: Udo Island and departure
- Morning: Drive to Seongsan port (roughly 1-1.5 hours from Jeju City) and catch the ferry to Udo (about 15 minutes, roughly 10,500 KRW/~$7 round trip, departures roughly every 30 minutes in season)
- Midday: Rent a bike or scooter on the island, most visitors skip bringing a car over, and loop the coast, including the “coral”/shell-sand beach
- Afternoon: Try Udo’s peanut ice cream, a genuine local specialty, before the return ferry, then drive back toward Jeju International Airport (allow 1.5-2 hours total from Udo)
- Evening: Depart, book a later flight for this one, the ferry-and-drive combination doesn’t leave room for an early departure
