5 Days in Lucerne: Adding Mount Titlis

This is the 4-day itinerary with a fifth day added for Titlis, the one mountain here with year-round glacier terrain rather than green summer meadows.

Day 1: The Old Town and the two bridges
Walk the Chapel Bridge, a partial 1993 reconstruction but still the defining sight, and the quieter Spreuerbrücke with its original “Dance of Death” panels. Visit the Lion Monument and Glacier Garden.
Rough cost for the day: the Glacier Garden runs around CHF 24 adult (verify); a casual lunch runs CHF 25-40.
Concrete tip: climb a free Musegg Wall tower for an elevated view before dinner.
Day 2: Mount Pilatus, the Golden Round Trip
Bus to Kriens, aerial cableway up, the world’s steepest cogwheel railway down to Alpnachstad, boat back across the lake. Seasonal, roughly May through November.
Rough cost for the day: the full round trip runs around CHF 119.50-140 per adult (verify).
Concrete tip: verify the current cogwheel schedule before you go, it shifts year to year.
Day 3: Mount Rigi, Europe’s first mountain railway
Reached from Vitznau, Arth-Goldau, or Weggis, opened in 1871, fully free with the Swiss Travel Pass.
Rough cost for the day: a standard return runs around CHF 78 (verify).
Concrete tip: pack a picnic, summit-restaurant prices run higher than in the city.
Day 4: Mount Titlis and Engelberg
Train to Engelberg, roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour, then a shuttle bus to the valley station. At the 3,020-meter summit, year-round glacier terrain, the Cliff Walk suspension bridge, and the Ice Flyer chairlift. The Titlis Rotair, the world’s first revolving cable car, is closed for maintenance 17 August to 11 December 2026, the Titlis Connect cable car covers the route during that window (verify at time of travel).

Concrete tip: dress for genuine winter conditions at the summit regardless of the season down in Lucerne.
Day 5: The Swiss Museum of Transport and departure
Spend the morning at the Swiss Museum of Transport (Verkehrshaus), with the Hans Erni Museum inside it, or the Bourbaki Panorama if you’d rather end on Swiss history than transport.
Rough cost for the day: the Verkehrshaus runs around CHF 37 adult (verify).
Concrete tip: time your departure train with a buffer, the station sits right by the lake, but Swiss trains run on tight schedules.
