Travel advisory: Bahrain is currently a participant in the 2026 regional conflict involving Iran, and Manama has sustained direct strikes, including a drone strike on a hotel in the city. Governments including the US State Department and the UK FCDO currently advise extra caution or against travel to Bahrain. Check your government’s current advisory before booking anything. Plan this for when it’s safe to go, not for right now.
Five days takes the 4-day core (Manama city, Qal’at al-Bahrain and Muharraq, A’ali and the Tree of Life, Al Areen and Jebel Dukhan) and adds a full day out to the Hawar Islands. If five days feels like too much, drop to the 4-day plan ; with a sixth day, the 6-day version adds the King Fahd Causeway and Riffa Fort.

Day 1: Manama City
Morning
Bahrain National Museum, the Gulf’s oldest national museum, for context on everything ahead. Around BD 1.1 entry (verify), 1.5-2 hours.
Afternoon
Bab al-Bahrain and the Manama Souq, timed for the 4-9pm reopening.
Evening
Al Fateh Grand Mosque (free tours daily except Friday), then dinner in Block 338, Adliya.
Day 2: Qal’at al-Bahrain and Muharraq
Morning
Muharraq’s Pearling Path (UNESCO 2012), anchored by Siyadi House, 2-3 hours for the full route.
Afternoon
Qal’at al-Bahrain (Bahrain Fort) , Bahrain’s first UNESCO site (2005). Best light late afternoon.
Evening
Dinner in old Muharraq or back in Manama.
Day 3: A’ali and the Tree of Life
Morning
A’ali for the Dilmun Burial Mounds (UNESCO 2019) and its pottery workshops.
Afternoon
The Tree of Life, a lone mesquite roughly 400 years old, about 40km from Manama. No facilities on site.
Evening
Return to Manama for dinner.
Day 4: Al Areen and Jebel Dukhan
Morning
Al Areen Wildlife Park, a safari-style, tour-bus drive with Arabian oryx and dozens of other species, about 40 minutes from Manama.
Afternoon
Jebel Dukhan, Bahrain’s highest point at 134 metres and the site of Well No. 1, the first oil find in the Arab Gulf (June 1932). A viewpoint stop, not a hike.
Evening
Dinner back in Manama.
Day 5: Hawar Islands
Morning
Take the ferry (roughly 25km, verify current schedule) to the Hawar Islands, a 16-island archipelago awarded to Bahrain by the International Court of Justice in 2001. Hawar Island itself hosts Arabian oryx, sand gazelle, sea turtles, and a large dugong population.
Afternoon
Continue exploring Hawar Island, reportedly home to one of the world’s largest Socotra cormorant breeding colonies. Access is limited to the main island, so this is a full-day, logistically involved excursion rather than a quick add-on.
Evening
Ferry back to Manama for a final dinner.
Costs and Logistics
| Day | Focus | Rough cost (BHD) |
|---|---|---|
| 1-2 | Manama city + Qal’at al-Bahrain/Muharraq | BD 15-30/day |
| 3-4 | A’ali/Tree of Life + Al Areen/Jebel Dukhan | BD 20-40/day with a car |
| 5 | Hawar Islands (ferry + island time) | BD 25-50, verify ferry cost |
One concrete tip: confirm the Hawar Islands ferry schedule before you build day 5 around it. Access is restricted and less frequent than city transport, so a fixed departure time should anchor the rest of that day’s plan, not the other way around.
