Day 1: Land, Settle In, Agafay at Sunset
Petit taxi in from Menara Airport, 6km and 15-20 minutes, agree the fare before you get in, 100-150 MAD is a fair daytime ceiling. Check into your riad, then spend the evening on Agafay, a rocky plateau 30-45 minutes out, not sand dunes. A camel-ride-and-dinner package runs roughly 280-320 MAD per person, the quad-and-camel combo climbs to about 550-650 MAD, typically a 4pm pickup back by 9:30-10pm.
Day 2: High Atlas and Imlil
Book a driver or small-group tour, 280-465 MAD per person including lunch, and head to Imlil, 65km and 90 minutes each way. You get walnut orchards, Berber villages and real elevation, not a Toubkal summit, which needs a multi-day guided trek from here.
Do you need a private driver or a group tour? Either works for these distances. A group tour is cheaper per person and fine for Agafay, Ourika and the Atlas since the roads are well-traveled and the stops are fixed. A private driver costs more but lets you linger at a viewpoint or skip a stop you don’t care about, worth it once you’re doing Essaouira or Ait Ben Haddou on a future trip.
Day 3: Ourika Valley and the Seven Waterfalls
Ourika sits closer than either previous day, 40-60km and 60-90 minutes out, built around Setti Fatma’s seven waterfalls and a roughly 2-hour round-trip hike to reach them. Full-day tours run 230-840 MAD per person, and the whole loop, pickup to drop-off, takes 7-8 hours, wear shoes with real grip, the rocks near the falls get slick.
Is Ourika better than Agafay for a last full day? Yes, if you want to end on something active rather than another desert evening. The hike to the falls gives you a genuine change of scenery, cooler air and moving water, a solid contrast to two days of dust and heat, and the shorter drive means you’re back in Marrakech with real evening left over.
Reconfirm your riad’s gate meeting point before you leave for the mountains each morning, and use your last evening for a proper dinner back in the medina rather than rushing straight to packing. Skip trying to squeeze in a fourth trip this time, three solid gateway destinations beat four rushed ones.
