Bucharest Activities by Time of Day
Bucharest Activities From Breakfast to Beer Hall
Bucharest rewards people who match each activity to the hour it works best. Some venues open at 09:00 and fill by noon, a spa suits the slow middle of the day, and the old beer hall comes alive after dark. Prices below are in lei (RON); at roughly 5.3 lei per euro, check the same-day rate before you budget.
Morning: the palace and the village
The Palace of the Parliament is the city’s biggest single sight, and a morning slot leaves the rest of the day free. Entry is by guided tour only. Individuals book by phone, bring a physical passport or national ID card (copies and driving licences are refused) and should arrive about 30 minutes before the slot. Booking details are on the Chamber of Deputies visitor pages .
The Dimitrie Gusti Village Museum, in King Michael I Park, opens at 09:00 and is best before the crowds. Founded in 1936, it spreads over 15 hectares and holds more than 300 relocated farmhouses, wooden churches and mills from every Romanian region. Adults pay 40 lei, pensioners 20 and pupils or students 10, with children under 7 free. On Mondays and Tuesdays admission is half price because some houses are closed. Hours are on muzeul-satului.ro .
Afternoon: thermal water at Therme
Therme București sits north of the airport at Balotești, a 30 to 40 minute trip by road. The water comes from about 3,100 metres down and the complex is split into three nested zones. Galaxy is the family zone with slides and pools. The Palm and Elysium are adult-oriented, with Elysium holding the saunas.
Tickets are priced by zone, length of stay and day of the week. A three-hour adult Galaxy entry starts at 71 lei on weekdays, while a full-day Elysium ticket runs to 217 lei at weekends. Towels and robes cost extra. Current tariffs are at therme.ro . Booking online or through the app is recommended at weekends.
Evening: dinner in the Old Town
Caru’ cu Bere on Strada Stavropoleos has served beer since 1879 and its painted Neo-Gothic hall is the reason to come. Expect grilled mici, ciorbă de burtă, smoked pork knuckle with polenta and a mid-range bill of roughly 75 to 120 lei per person.
After dinner, the lanes of Lipscani are a short walk away. For something quieter, the Romanian Athenaeum stages concerts under its domed rotunda, and the Athenaeum site carries the programme.
Getting between them
- The metro costs 7 lei for a single trip or 18 lei for a 24-hour pass; see metrorex.ro .
- Surface buses and trams charge about 3 lei for a 90-minute ticket.
- From the airport there is no metro. Take the CFR train to Gara de Nord or Express Bus 100, which runs around the clock and leaves from the Departures stop.
A simple order for one day
Guided extras are listed on Viator . Start with the village museum at opening, take the afternoon for Therme or the palace tour, and keep the evening for the beer hall. A second day can drift towards the sights on the sightseeing page , and a longer stay fits the three-day itinerary .
