Some of Greece’s best-known sights only really make sense from Athens once you stop treating every one of them as a day trip.

Cape Sounion, Hydra, Aegina and Poros are genuine same-day trips; save the overnight budget for Meteora or the islands instead, where it actually changes the experience.
