Cannes for Couples: Quiet Hours Planned
The best couple moments in Cannes are quiet ones, so this plan runs by the clock. Prices are in euros.
Morning: the abbey island
Catch an early Planaria boat from Quai des Îles in the old port; it is the only service to Île Saint-Honorat and takes 15 to 20 minutes. Adult returns are €19.50 online. The island covers about 40 hectares, has no cars and is run by monks, who make wine you can taste. Walk the coastal path, which takes about an hour and a half, enter the free fortified monastery and sit down to lunch at La Tonnelle, which takes bookings online. Cover shoulders near the abbey, keep conversation low and do not smoke. Boats can be cancelled in rough weather, so check the island’s own notices .
Afternoon: a quiet art stop
Back on the mainland, the Centre d’art La Malmaison at 47 Boulevard de la Croisette offers contemporary shows in a 19th-century pavilion with a free terrace and is closed on Mondays. Another option is the Musée des Explorations du Monde in Le Suquet, about €6.50, whose castle setting looks across the bay.
Sunset: the seafront
Walk from the Palais des Festivals toward Pointe Croisette as the Esterel hills turn red. The Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, at 58 Boulevard de la Croisette reopened in 2023 and keeps a bar named Bar°58. Hôtel Martinez and Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic stand along the same stretch. Hotel bars are for drinks; the promenade is free.
Evening: the old town
Rue Saint-Antoine, in Le Suquet, climbs between small restaurants. Book a table in summer. Walk down to the old port afterwards by the lit lanes.
On a summer night
Fireworks light the bay on six evenings in July and August, and watching from the shore costs nothing. The 2026 shows began at 22:00.
Dress and pace
Nothing on this plan is formal except the abbey, where covered shoulders are expected. Leave the afternoon open: a long lunch on Saint-Honorat, a slow walk to the boat and a rest before dinner make a better day than a packed list. Carry a light layer for the evening crossing, since the wind cools the water quickly.
When to come
The festival period is 11 to 22 May in 2027, a time of crowds and high rates. The shoulder months are gentler, and the ferries carry fewer people. Pack flat shoes for the steps and a layer for the boat back.
