Polis Trail Notes and Walking Times
Most walking near Polis starts at the Baths of Aphrodite, around 11 km west of the town, with one short route inside Polis itself. The area is in Paphos District, north-west Cyprus. Currency is the euro.

Aphrodite Nature Trail in detail
The path begins and ends at the Baths. Walkers pass the ruins of Pyrgos tis Rigainas and an old oak, and the views reach Cape Arnaoutis and Polis. The VisitCyprus page lists two fountains along the way that do not give drinking water. Fill every bottle before you leave.
Adonis loop in detail
You join the Adonis path about 400 m before the Baths. Part of it runs along the same ground as the Aphrodite trail, which lets you link the two. Doing both means two loops of 3 to 4 hours, so it is a full day on the hill.
Polis town stroll
Begin at the Marion-Arsinoe museum, Leoforos Makariou III 26, which is free and open 08:00 to 16:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 15:00 on Saturday. Then walk to the main square and look at Agios Andronikos church from outside. Access inside has been restricted since a March 2023 notice.
Getting to the trailhead
Route 622 travels from Polis through Prodromi and Latchi to the Baths of Aphrodite. Roughly 11 buses leave Polis between 06:00 and 18:00, according to the official bus page. Times change, so confirm on pafosbuses.com or on +357 8000 5588. Drivers will find tarmac ends near the Baths.
What to carry
- Plenty of water, since the fountains on the route are not drinkable.
- A hat, sun cream and shoes with grip.
- Food for a full day if you plan both loops.
Rough ground beyond the Baths
The track toward Fontana Amorosa is unpaved, with potholes, loose stone and steep drops, and quad-bike crashes there are frequent. Take care on foot as well, since vehicles use it.
Closed trail
Avakas Gorge is shut to visitors, as it has been since 6 December 2025. The Forestry Department can confirm whether it has reopened. It lies on the Pegeia and Kathikas side, not near Polis.
