Read this before you plan your dates around an event. Saudi Arabia is under a US State Department Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” advisory (Iranian and Houthi drone and missile risk, conflict active since February 2026), and the UK FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Riyadh Province. Check the current US State Department and UK FCDO advisories before booking around any of the events below, since flight schedules through King Khalid International can shift with the situation.
Riyadh’s event calendar runs heaviest in the cooler months, roughly October through May. Here’s what’s actually on, and what’s changed for 2026.
Riyadh Season (October-May)
The flagship entertainment festival, running each cool season with zones across the city, including Boulevard World and Riyadh Winter Wonderland (free entry before 6pm). The 2025-26 edition opened 10 October 2025 and Boulevard World closed 2 May 2026; the next edition is expected to open around October 2026. Treat exact zone dates as seasonal and verify closer to your trip.
Saudi Cup (mid-February)
The world’s richest horse race, worth around $35 million in total purses, run at King Abdulaziz Racetrack. The 2026 edition ran its 7th running on 13-14 February. If racing and a genuine local event atmosphere interest you, this is Riyadh’s single biggest sporting date.
King Abdulaziz Camel Festival (December-early January)
Held near Rumah, about 120km northeast of the city, with camel racing, a beauty pageant, and a heritage market. A genuinely local, non-touristy event if your dates overlap with it. Browse desert and camel festival day tours if you’d rather not arrange the drive yourself.
Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale
Held in the JAX District of Diriyah roughly every two years; the 3rd edition ran 30 January-2 May 2026. Worth building a Diriyah day around if the dates line up with your trip.
Founding Day and National Day
Founding Day (22 February) marks the First Saudi State’s founding in 1727, and National Day (23 September) marks the 1932 unification of the Kingdom. Both bring citywide decorations and events, though as national holidays rather than tourist festivals specifically.
What happened to the Riyadh Formula E race?
It moved. Formula E now races in Jeddah, not Riyadh, so ignore any older listing for a “Riyadh E-Prix,” it’s no longer accurate. Two other dates worth a caveat: the Janadriyah heritage festival’s 2026 status is unclear at the time of writing, and Riyadh Book Fair dates have been inconsistent year to year, so don’t commit travel plans to either without checking current listings first.
