5 Hidden Gems in Phuket

Patong and Bangla Road are the loud version of Phuket. These 5 spots are the quieter side of the same island.
1. Khao Phra Thaeo National Park
Phuket’s last real rainforest, on the northeast side of the island, is home to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, which rehabilitates rescued gibbons for release back into the wild. A roughly 4km trail connects the Bang Pae and Ton Sai waterfalls inside the park. It’s the closest thing to genuine jungle you’ll find without leaving the island.
2. Sirinat National Park
The mangrove boardwalks and Mai Khao’s long, quiet beach sit right up against the airport’s north side, and turtles nest there from November to February. It’s a different Phuket from the resort strips further south, and most visitors never make it up here.
3. Chillva Market
A container-bar market in Phuket Town, more casual and local than the tourist night markets, with a younger crowd and rotating food stalls.
4. Malin Plaza
Patong’s other night market, a short walk from Bangla Road but a much calmer alternative for street food without the club crowd.
5. Koh Yao Noi
Between Phuket and Krabi, this island is quieter than any of the day-trip islands and works better as an overnight than a rushed day trip. If you have a spare night, this is where to spend it.
Two more that reward the effort: the Rawai seafood market at the island’s southern tip, where you pick your own fish and shellfish and an adjacent kitchen grills it on the spot for a fraction of a restaurant’s markup, and the southern viewpoints away from Promthep Cape’s sunset crush, Windmill Viewpoint near Ya Nui and the Karon “Three Beaches” pullout, which frame the same coastline with a fraction of the crowd. None of these need a boat charter or a guide, and they slot neatly into an afternoon between the Big Buddha and a beach dinner.
