7 Best Photo Spots in Phuket

1. Promthep Cape
The island’s classic sunset shot, a rocky headland at the southern tip with the Andaman Sea behind it. Arrive well before sunset to get a spot at the rail.
2. Karon Viewpoint
One frame gets you three beaches, Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon, stacked along the coast below. Best in the golden hour near sunset.
3. Phuket Old Town
Thalang Road and Soi Romanee’s Sino-Portuguese shophouses, painted in faded pastels, give you a completely different Phuket from the beach shots. Morning light works best before the streets fill up.
4. Big Buddha
The 45m white marble statue on Nakkerd Hill photographs well from below and from its own viewing terrace over the island. A 2024 landslide closed the access road on and off into early 2026, so confirm current access on Thailand’s national park portal before planning a visit around it.
5. Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island
A day-trip destination, but bring a camera: the limestone karsts and Khao Phing Kan’s Ko Tapu spire, from 1974’s The Man with the Golden Gun, are some of the most photographed scenery in southern Thailand.
6. Kata Noi
A quieter cove next to Kata Beach, with soft sand and a green hillside backdrop that’s calmer than Patong’s crowded shoreline.
7. Freedom Beach
Reachable only by boat or a steep trail, this secluded cove south of Patong gives you an empty-beach shot that’s hard to find anywhere else on the island.
Sunrise and sunset bracket the best light for nearly all of these, and the shoulder months, April to May or September to November, bring smaller crowds. Book a Phang Nga Bay photo tour on GetYourGuide to cover spot 5 properly, and find a hotel near these spots on Booking.com . Every foreign arrival still needs a free Thailand Digital Arrival Card filed online before landing, worth sorting before you’re chasing golden hour.
