5 Best Viewpoints and Hikes in Phuket

Let’s be honest about what this island is: a beach destination, not a trekking one. There’s no mountain hike on Phuket, and it’s worth saying plainly rather than stretching a beach walk into something it isn’t.
Khao Phra Thaeo National Park
This is the real answer. Phuket’s last patch of genuine rainforest, on the northeast side of the island, holds the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, which cares for rescued gibbons before release back into the wild, and a roughly 4km trail connecting the Bang Pae and Ton Sai waterfalls. It’s a proper walk through jungle, humid and shaded, and the closest thing to a real hike Phuket has.
Sirinat National Park
On the northwest coast, this is a mangrove boardwalk more than a trail, flat and easy, with Mai Khao’s turtle-nesting beach (November to February) at the end of it. Worth a stop, not a workout.
Viewpoint walks
Promthep Cape, Karon Viewpoint, and Windmill Viewpoint are all short, paved-or-graded walks to a view rather than hikes, but they’re genuinely worth the 10 to 20 minutes each takes.
For real jungle trekking, leave the island
If you want an actual forest trek, that’s Khao Sok National Park on the mainland, about 2.5 hours by road. Rainforest, Cheow Lan Lake, and floating raft-houses make it the real thing that Phuket itself can’t offer. Our Phuket day trips guide covers booking it as a day out.
Before you go
Phuket’s heat and humidity are constant year-round, bring more water than you think you’ll need, wear breathable clothing, and don’t expect serious elevation gain anywhere on this list.
