Day 1: Antananarivo

  • Land at Ivato, transfer into the city
  • Afternoon on the Rova hill and through Analakely market, the last easy city day before six days of driving and parks
  • Early night, the RN7 push starts tomorrow

Day 2: Antsirabe

  • Drive the paved RN7 south to Antsirabe, about 3.5 hours, Madagascar’s coolest city and the classic first overnight on this route
  • Afternoon pousse-pousse ride and a stop at a zebu-horn or gemstone workshop
  • Overnight in Antsirabe

Day 3: On to Ranomafana

  • Long drive day, Antsirabe to Ranomafana, roughly 6 hours on the RN7, the single longest leg of the trip
  • Arrive by early evening, check into a lodge at the park edge
  • Optional short night walk if energy allows, otherwise rest ahead of tomorrow’s full park day

Day 4: Ranomafana National Park

  • Full-day rainforest circuit with a mandatory MNP guide, confirm current entrance and guide fees at parcs-madagascar.com since Ranomafana’s figures conflict across sources
  • This is golden bamboo lemur territory, the species whose 1986 discovery by primatologist Patricia Wright directly led to the park’s 1991 founding, along with 12 other lemur species
  • Evening back at the lodge, an early night ahead of tomorrow’s drive to Isalo

Day 5: Ranomafana to Isalo

  • Drive south on the RN7 toward Isalo, about 3 hours, via a stop at Anja Community Reserve near Ambalavao, a community-run reserve with the country’s highest concentration of ring-tailed lemurs
  • Afternoon arrival at Isalo, first look at the sandstone plateau scenery from the lodge
  • Overnight near the park

Day 6: Isalo, then the flight home

  • Morning circuit at Isalo National Park, the Canyon des Singes and the Piscine Naturelle, a natural spring-fed pool, are the two headline stops, ring-tailed lemurs and sifakas are common along the trail
  • Afternoon drive or transfer to Toliara, then a Madagascar Airlines flight back to Tana, roughly 1h30, rather than redriving the full RN7
  • Depart from Ivato that evening or the next morning depending on your connection

Why does this itinerary skip Andasibe entirely?

Distance. Andasibe sits east of Tana on the RN2, the RN7 corridor runs south, and combining both branches inside 6 days means either rushing the RN7 or cutting a day from Ranomafana or Isalo. This route trades the indri detour for real time at two of the RN7’s best parks instead, a genuine either/or given how slow the roads are here.

Is the Toliara-Tana flight reliable?
