Planning Your Time in Dammam
Read this before booking (as of November 2026). The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) updated its Saudi Arabia guidance on 27 October 2026 and advises against all but essential travel to the country, and against any travel within 10 km of the Yemen border. Dammam is one of the cities its page names as facing a raised risk of Houthi missile and drone strikes on airports, military sites, ports and energy facilities. American guidance says to reconsider travel, and the US government told non-emergency staff and their families to leave Saudi Arabia from 23 October 2026. Insurers may refuse claims if you go against FCDO advice. Read the FCDO guidance and the State Department advisory , then check your airline and insurer. Treat every time, fare and opening hour below as subject to change.

Which season, which plan
November to March is the season for anything outdoors. Between June and September, daytime temperatures pass 40C and the Gulf humidity is heavy, so shift everything to early morning or after sunset and spend the afternoon at Ithra or in a mall. The busy part of the day is roughly 16:30 to midnight, and shops and restaurants stay open through prayer times, although a few small traditional stores close for 15 to 20 minutes.
A sample day in winter
Begin at Heritage Village on the Corniche, where the restaurant opens at noon and runs to midnight, or to 01:00 on Thursday and Friday. After lunch drive to Dhahran for Ithra. Return to the coast for the sunset view from the Marjan Island tower, which stands about 30 m high at the end of an 1,800 m bridge, and finish with dinner at Ajdan Walk in Al Khobar.
Beach days
Half Moon Bay has calm, shallow water and free entry, plus showers, toilets and parking. Even so, a family has drowned there in a zone where swimming was banned. Pick a signed swimming area, follow the Border Guard, and keep children within reach. Public beaches expect modest swimwear. Mövenpick Beach Resort Al Khobar, on Half Moon Bay Road, has a private beach where dress rules are looser.
Al-Ahsa as a full day
The SAR train from Dammam Railway Station to Hofuf takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours each way, from SAR 35, and every seat must be reserved at tickets.sar.com.sa or in the SAR app. In Al-Ahsa you can see Al-Qarah Mountain, Qasr Ibrahim and the Al-Qaisariyah Souq, all part of a UNESCO landscape listed in 2018.
