Gdańsk Bus Tours: Coach or City Ticket?
Gdańsk’s grandest streets are closed to motor traffic, so a bus tour here is really a question of what lies beyond the walls. Inside them you walk; outside them a coach, a tram or a commuter train does the work, and the cheapest of the three is often the best.
How the old centre works
The Royal Way along Długa and Długi Targ, ulica Mariacka and the riverside Długie Pobrzeże are all closed to motor traffic. Coaches and city buses stop on the roads around them, and from there it is a short walk through the Golden Gate or the Green Gate. The only vehicles allowed inside are small electric carts, known as melex, which give a seated loop through the lanes for anyone who finds cobbles hard going. Plan the Main Town on foot and keep wheels for the rest.
When a coach tour pays off
Malbork Castle. Trains from Gdańsk Główny take 25 to 60 minutes, then there is a 15-minute walk. Because a guide or audio guide already comes with the castle ticket, a coach mainly buys you door-to-door transport. That is worth it for a group with a slow walker, or on a tight schedule. Hel in the off season. The water tram to Hel runs May to September only. The rest of the year it is about 100 km by road, 2 to 2.5 hours each way, and a driven trip removes the timetable juggling.

ZTM sells three tickets that matter to visitors. A single ride is 4.80 PLN (2.40 reduced) and covers one vehicle only. If you change, buy the 75-minute ticket at 6.00 PLN (3.00 reduced). Riding all day, the 24-hour ticket at about 22 PLN usually wins. Buy in the Jakdojade app, at kiosks or with a contactless card on the reader inside the vehicle, and check lines on ztm.gda.pl .
SKM trains run every 7 to 10 minutes at peak. Buy SKM tickets in Jakdojade, Koleo, SkyCash or Bilkom, from a station machine or ticket office, or from the conductor on board; timetables are on skm.pkp.pl .
From the airport
The 210 bus to Gdańsk Główny takes 35 to 45 minutes on a separate airport fare, and the N3 covers the night. Polregio trains reach Gdańsk Wrzeszcz in about 19 to 25 minutes. Uber or Bolt into town runs about 45 to 70 PLN.
Verdict
Skip any sightseeing bus for the Main Town itself; it is too compact and too pedestrian to need one. A 24-hour ZTM ticket plus a return SKM fare to Sopot comes to about 35 PLN, and a coach is worth paying for only on the Malbork run.
