Seville Day Trips by Season

In July the best day trip from Seville is the one with air-conditioning at the other end, and in April it is whichever train still has seats.

Summer, June to September

Go early, return before the worst heat, and favour indoor stops.

  • Córdoba: the AVE takes about 40 to 45 minutes. Fares start around €10 and often run €20 to €26 on the day, so check renfe.com . The Mezquita-Catedral is €15 for adults and free from 08:30 to 09:30 Monday to Saturday, with entry closing at 09:20 and no groups. See mezquita-catedraldecordoba.es .
  • Cádiz: a direct Media Distancia train takes about 1h35 to 1h45, with fares from about €16.65. The old town and Playa de la Caleta make a breezy swap for a hot inland day.
  • Jerez: about an hour by train, and the sherry bodegas are cool and shaded inside.

Itálica opens only 09:00 to 15:00 between late June and late September, and it is closed on Mondays.

Spring, March to May

Semana Santa (21 to 28 March 2027) and the Feria de Abril (expected 13 to 18 April 2027) fill the trains, so reserve seats early. Spring is also the best moment for the open-air stops.

  • Carmona: bus M-124 from Seville takes about 50 minutes and costs about €2.80. Departure stops are listed on ctas.es . The Roman necropolis and the Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla are the highlights.
  • Itálica: about 20 to 25 minutes by bus from Plaza de Armas. The amphitheatre is the main sight. From 21 March to 20 June it opens until 21:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Ronda: by bus only in any practical sense, about 2 to 2.5 hours each way with 6 or 7 departures a day. Compare options with a Ronda day trip search if you prefer a guided transfer.

Autumn and winter, October to March

Short days suit towns with a lot indoors. Itálica opens Tuesday to Saturday from 09:00 to 18:00 between 21 September and 20 March. Jerez holds horse shows at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art on set days, traditionally Tuesdays and Thursdays, so check the school’s calendar before booking a train. Cádiz Cathedral and the Torre Tavira camera obscura work in any weather.

The long day: Granada

The Avant train takes about 2h30 each way. The Alhambra needs a timed ticket booked weeks or months ahead at tickets.alhambra-patronato.es , and the train times must match the entry slot, so book the Alhambra first.

Planning notes

Keep Mondays for Córdoba, Cádiz or Jerez, because Itálica is shut. Sunday afternoons suit the Cathedral free slot at home, so save that for a day in the city. More on the home base is on the Seville guide .
