Seville with Children by Age Group
A four-year-old and a thirteen-year-old want very different things from Seville, and the city has a good answer for each age.
Under 5: boats, shade and short stops
The canal at Plaza de España is the easy win. Rowboats cost about €6 for 35 minutes and carry up to four people, while a motor boat is about €12 for 15 minutes. Prices are as reported locally, so confirm at the kiosk. Entry to the plaza itself is free.
Nearby, the Parque de María Luisa gives shade, paths and fountains for a stroller. Children under 13 enter the Real Alcázar free with an adult, and the Cathedral is also free under 13, so short visits cost nothing for the smallest. Reserve the Alcázar at alcazarsevilla.org .
Ages 6 to 12: tanks, planetarium and rides
Acuario de Sevilla at Muelle de las Delicias has 35 tanks following Magellan’s voyage, with bull sharks, loggerhead turtles and rays. Adult tickets are about €17 and children aged 4 to 14 about €12. See acuariosevilla.es .
Casa de la Ciencia sits in the Peru Pavilion from the 1929 Expo and offers interactive natural history displays and a small planetarium. Details are on casadelaciencia.csic.es . The Pabellón de la Navegación on Isla de la Cartuja covers maritime exploration with hands-on exhibits.
Isla Mágica, also on Isla de la Cartuja, mixes pirate and New World themed coasters and flume rides. It opens on a published calendar from spring to autumn, and Agua Mágica is a summer-only extra. Check islamagica.es for dates. Aquópolis, the water-slide park, runs from June to early September.
Teens: climbs, views and late nights
The Giralda climb is 35 ramps and 17 steps, with no lift, and it suits energetic teenagers. The Setas walkway, from €16, gives a rooftop view at dusk, and the Aurora light show runs from April to October. For a flexible guided option, browse family tours and compare them with doing it yourself.
Heat and rhythm
Summer alerts above 40C are common. Plan outdoor stops before 12:00 and after 19:30, and use the aquarium or the science house for the middle of the day. Lunch runs from 13:30 to 16:00 and kitchens rarely open for dinner before 20:00, so a child’s snack bag helps.
Horse carriages are a popular idea, but heat is hard on the horses and the city is moving to restrict them in extreme heat. Choose a cool evening or skip them.
Tip: split a three-day visit into one big outing per day, with the midday break built in. Neighbouring ideas are on the sightseeing page .
