Pomoravlje District Family Guide
This guide sorts family options in Pomoravlje District by the kind of day you have. A summer heatwave, a wet afternoon and a day with older children each call for a different stop. Prices are in Serbian dinars (RSD), and opening hours should be checked before you set off.
A hot summer day
Aqua Park Jagodina, on Braće Dirak, runs only in summer and is the obvious pick when temperatures climb. It sits on a separate site from the zoo, so treat the two as different outings and allow for the transfer. The zoo stands in the Đurđevo Brdo park, roughly 2 km out of the centre, and is billed as the second zoo in Serbia. Animal-welfare organisations have raised concerns about conditions there, so make up your own mind about visiting.
A wet or cool day
The Natural History Centre of Serbia in Svilajnac has exhibits and a dino park with life-size dinosaur replicas. Children aged 3 to 12 pay 550 RSD, adults pay 850 RSD, pensioners and students pay 600 RSD and under-3s are free. Two adults with one child can buy a family ticket for 2,100 RSD, while two adults with four children pay 3,300 RSD. The final entry is an hour before closing, so do not arrive late.
In Jagodina the wax museum, billed as Serbia’s first, shows around 28 to 30 figures, and the Museum of Naive and Marginal Art at Boška Đuričića 10 is open Tuesday to Sunday.
A day with older children
Resava Cave rewards children who can manage steps and a cold, damp walk of about 800 m. A guide leads the way, and the usual rules apply: no touching, no wandering off the path, no flash and no smoking. Sandals are a poor choice, and a fleece or jacket is wise. Children under 7 pay 50 RSD, students and pupils 650 RSD and adults 700 RSD.
Afterwards, the Veliki Buk waterfall in the Lisine natural monument, about 20 km east of Despotovac, gives a short outdoor stretch. The monument has first-category protection, so children should stay on the path.
