Romantic Plans for Jamaica Couples

Travel advice: the UK FCDO says some British visitors have reported rape and sexual assault in Jamaican tourist areas, including beach resorts, often by someone they met socially. It urges visitors to avoid isolated places and to keep room numbers private. The US State Department lists Jamaica at Level 2, and Negril and Montego Bay are still recovering from Hurricane Melissa (October 2025). Read gov.uk and travel.state.gov .

Jamaica has a short list of good couples’ experiences and no ready-made honeymoon circuit. What follows is that list, in the order you might use it over a few days, from a slow daytime float to evenings out. No hotels or couples’ resorts are named. Daytime

Martha Brae, by raft. The operator markets the ride to couples, and each raft takes two adults, so you will not share. It lasts 75 minutes over 3 miles, and a licensed captain steers a 30-foot raft down flat, quiet water. Rafts leave daily from 9:00 to 16:00 near Falmouth, about 30 minutes from Montego Bay. Seven Mile Beach and Long Bay Beach Park. The beach at Negril is about 7 miles (11 km) of sand. Long Bay Beach Park is one public way onto it, with a fee of about US$3 for non-resident adults, open daily from 9:00 to 17:00. Choose stretches with other people and staff around rather than empty ones.

A rum tasting at Appleton Estate. The Joy Spence tour in St Elizabeth finishes in a tasting room and runs Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 to 15:30. The estate suffered heavy hurricane damage, so phone 876-448-2237 before setting out.

Evenings

Sunset at Rick’s Cafe, Negril. The cafe on the West End cliffs opened in 1974 and serves from noon to 22:00 every day, with live music and no cover charge. Divers jump from the cliffs, and injuries are reported, so take a terrace table and watch. The cafe’s own page is rickscafejamaica.com .

Rose Hall after dark. The Haunted Night Tour at Rose Hall Great House near Montego Bay runs Wednesday to Saturday, with tours between 18:00 and 20:00, at US$35 per adult. Reservations are required. It takes 45 to 60 minutes, and the Witches Brew cocktail at the Dungeon Bar costs extra. Transport is not provided, photos and video are banned inside, and the house suits neither wheelchairs nor bad backs. Details are on Rose Hall’s site .

Luminous Lagoon by boat. Evening trips leave Glistening Waters Marina in Falmouth for about 30 to 45 minutes. The glow is strongest on dark nights and much weaker around a full moon. Resellers quote roughly US$90 to US$185 with transfers.

What is not listed

Staying safe as a pair

  • Use only JTB-approved or hotel-booked taxis with a photo-ID driver.
  • Skip isolated and deserted beaches, particularly after dark.
