Luxembourg for Couples Through the Seasons
Luxembourg has no packaged romance experiences, and none were found for this page. What it offers couples is a set of quiet, inexpensive pleasures you assemble yourselves: wine in a limestone cellar, an evening on the ramparts, a view from a free lift and a winter market. This page runs through the year, because the season decides which of them are open. Prices are in euros, and you pay no fare on second-class trains, trams or buses, which makes an evening of wine easy to end safely.
Spring and summer
Moselle wine days. Remich and Grevenmacher both sit on the Moselle, so a weekend can hold two cellars. At Caves St Martin the guided tour takes about 45 minutes through tunnels nearly a kilometre long and ends with a glass of wine or cremant, for EUR 9. Listed hours are Wednesday to Sunday, mid-March to mid-December. At Caves Bernard-Massard the guide, a short film and one glass cost about EUR 8, on Wednesdays to Sundays between April and October, and by arrangement outside those months. Book ahead, and ask about tasting times, which differ from shop hours. The Caves St Martin listing has current details.
A slow boat on the Upper Sure Lake. A guided solar boat leaves Insenborn for about two hours between 1 May and 1 October. An adult ticket is EUR 10. It needs a reservation and does not sail on Mondays. It is closed at the moment, so keep it for a spring or summer weekend.
Any season: the city at dusk
The Chemin de la Corniche is a free walkway along the old ramparts, starting at the Bock promontory and looking down into the Grund. It carries a nickname, credited to the writer Batty Weber, as the finest balcony in Europe. Go an hour before sunset, then walk down to the Grund for dinner.
Afterwards, ride the Pfaffenthal panoramic lift from Pescatore park, which costs nothing and is listed as open until 01:00. Maintenance takes it out of service on the first Monday of every month. The lift listing gives the hours. The funicular to the Kirchberg tram is also free.
Winter lights
The capital’s winter season brings a market on Place d’Armes, the Wantermaart with a Ferris wheel on Place de la Constitution, the Niklosmaart on Place de Paris and a rink at Kinnekswiss. Reports put the 2026 season at 20 November to 3 January, so confirm the dates locally before booking a trip around them.
Where to stay
Two hotels appear on booking sites as operating: Grand Hotel Cravat on boulevard Roosevelt in the capital, and Chateau d’Urspelt in the Clervaux area, which has a spa. Rates are not given here, so compare dates and read recent reviews. Winter weekends near the markets fill early. Search Luxembourg City stays on Booking.com .
Planning notes
- A guided hour in the casemates is a good shared activity, but places are limited and slots are fixed, so reserve in advance through the city tourist office .
- The LuxembourgPass, from about EUR 23 for one day, covers sights only. It is worth buying only if you plan several paid visits.
- English is understood at tourist sites, alongside Luxembourgish, French and German.
