Travel advisory: Dubai and the wider UAE were caught up in the 2026 regional conflict with Iran. During a roughly six-week phase in early 2026, Iranian drones and missiles struck sites in the UAE, including near Dubai’s airport and port and a hotel on Palm Jumeirah. A ceasefire has held since April, and Dubai’s flights, hotels, and attractions are operating and recovering, though the situation stays fluid (the current risk is mainly to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, not the city). The US State Department has the UAE at “Reconsider Travel” and the UK FCDO does not advise against travel, but both flag the regional situation. Check the current US State Department and UK FCDO advisories before booking, and again before you fly. Everything below is written for a normal visit, for when it’s calm.
Three of Dubai’s best-known sights changed status within the same year, and most listicles online still describe them as they were two years ago. Here’s what’s actually true right now.
Museum of the Future: closing, not opening
The torus-shaped building on Sheikh Zayed Road takes its last visitors on 15 September 2026 and closes to the public from 16 September 2026 for a full exhibition rebuild, staying shut until Q1 2027, when it reopens as an all-new “Mission 2071” experience. Don’t book a ticket expecting to walk in this autumn; admire it from the sidewalk instead until the reopening.
Ain Dubai: reopened, despite what older posts say
The Bluewaters Island observation wheel spent years closed before reopening 26 December 2024, then had a further precautionary shutdown from roughly March to May 2026 during the regional conflict. It has run since, with tickets currently from around AED 145 for a roughly 38-minute rotation. Treat that as confirmed status; check the exact daily hours on Ain Dubai’s own site before you go, since other sources still list slightly different windows.
Al Fahidi Fort: still closed, and has been since 2021
The Dubai Museum inside Al Fahidi Fort has not reopened since its 2021 closure for restoration, and no firm date exists yet beyond a Q1 2027 target. The surrounding Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is a different thing entirely, open and genuinely walkable, so don’t skip the district over the fort’s closure.
The Burj Khalifa’s ticket, in three versions
At The Top’s non-prime slot on levels 124/125 runs AED 173, the 4pm-7pm prime-hour slot runs AED 250, and adding level 148 through the SKY upgrade runs AED 400-554 with a personal ambassador included. Book Burj Khalifa tickets on GetYourGuide once your dates are set, since prime and SKY slots sell out days ahead.
Burj Al Arab: reservation only, no exceptions
There’s no walk-up entry to the sail-shaped hotel; only a confirmed hotel stay, dining reservation, bar visit, or afternoon tea booking gets past security. Tea starts around AED 285, and the standalone AED 99 tour that used to substitute for a reservation was discontinued in 2026.
The rest, quickly
The Dubai Frame runs AED 50 for adults, the Dubai Fountain is free to watch nightly from Burj Park, and Palm Jumeirah’s free Boardwalk and Palm West Beach make it a genuinely public place rather than a private resort island; its separate Palm Fountain attraction closed for good on 15 May 2023. The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo sells a Day Pass at AED 153 up through a VIP tier above AED 399. Verdict: build your must-see day around the Burj Khalifa and the free Fountain show, treat Ain Dubai as a legitimate add-on rather than a skipped attraction, and drop the Museum of the Future from any itinerary dated between now and early 2027.
