7 Days in Dubai: First-Timer Plan

Travel advisory: Dubai and the wider UAE were caught up in the 2026 regional conflict with Iran. During a roughly six-week phase in early 2026, Iranian drones and missiles struck sites in the UAE, including near Dubai’s airport and port and a hotel on Palm Jumeirah. A ceasefire has held since April, and Dubai’s flights, hotels, and attractions are operating and recovering, though the situation stays fluid (the current risk is mainly to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, not the city). The US State Department has the UAE at “Reconsider Travel” and the UK FCDO does not advise against travel, but both flag the regional situation. Check the current US State Department and UK FCDO advisories before booking, and again before you fly. Everything below is written for a normal visit, for when it’s calm.
A full week is the version with real slack: the six-day core plus a genuinely unhurried final day, useful if your flight home is a late one. Tighter on time? Use the 6-day plan and drop day seven. Book these before you go
Day 1: Downtown and the skyline
Morning
Burj Khalifa (Level 124/125, roughly AED 149-250, book ahead), then The Dubai Mall (free).
Afternoon
The Dubai Aquarium (around AED 120).
Evening
The free Dubai Fountain show (check current showtimes) and dinner nearby.
Day 2: Old Dubai
Morning
Al Fahidi Historical District, then the abra (about AED 1) to Deira for the Gold Souk and Spice Souk. The Dubai Museum inside Al Fahidi Fort has been closed since around January 2026 for restoration, so plan around it.
Afternoon
Lunch at Ravi in Satwa (Pakistani, open since 1978), then Al Seef for a creekside walk.
Evening
Dinner at Arabian Tea House, Emirati dishes in a courtyard setting.
Day 3: Desert safari and Museum of the Future
Morning
The Museum of the Future (AED 149-159, book a timed slot).
Afternoon
The Dubai Frame (around AED 42).
Evening
A desert safari (roughly AED 99-350): dune bashing, a camel ride, a Bedouin-camp dinner.
Day 4: Palm Jumeirah
Morning
The Palm Monorail to Palm Jumeirah; The View at The Palm, or Aquaventure (roughly AED 300-350, free for Atlantis hotel guests).
Afternoon
Beach time at the Palm.
Evening
Dinner in the district, and check whether Ain Dubai is running if you want to add it.
Day 5: Marina and JBR
Morning
Dubai Marina for a walk along the promenade.
Afternoon
JBR/The Walk, the 1.7km public beach.
Evening
Dinner in the Marina or DIFC.
Day 6: Expo City and seasonal parks
Morning
Expo City Dubai: free public concourses plus paid pavilions.
Afternoon
If it’s roughly October-May, add Dubai Miracle Garden or Global Village; both close for summer, so verify current status near the seasonal edges.
Evening
Dinner back in Downtown.
Day 7: A slow last day
Morning
Sleep in, then a return visit to whichever souk or beach you liked best, since day one through six already covered the fixed bookings.
Afternoon
Last-minute shopping at The Dubai Mall or the Gold Souk, and a final coffee stop for karak chai before packing.
Evening
A relaxed dinner near your hotel and an early night if your onward flight leaves the next morning.
Getting around and where to stay
Base in Downtown; the Metro Red Line covers the Marina/JBR side and the Expo City extension, and the Palm Monorail is a separate ticketed connection. Uber, Careem, and metered taxis cover the desert safari transfer and airport run.
One concrete tip: keep day seven genuinely unstructured rather than front-loading a new sight into it. On a week-long trip, the flexible day is what absorbs any earlier delay (a sold-out slot, a heat-shortened afternoon) without wrecking the schedule.
