6 Days in Bergen: The First-Timer Itinerary
Six days means two fjord days plus a genuinely low-effort sixth day, not a third marathon tour. Days one through five follow the 5-day itinerary : the city, Norway in a Nutshell, Ulriken and Troldhaugen, then Hardangerfjord. Day six trades a bus seat for a walk around Sandviken and a shorter cruise straight off the Bergen harbor. Want the full week? See the 7-day itinerary .

- Walk Bryggen, the UNESCO wharf, free to wander, roughly 62 wooden buildings from the 1350 Hanseatic Kontor
- Browse Fisketorget for a snack, not a full meal
- Ride the Floibanen funicular, return fare NOK 200 online or 220 at the counter in summer, NOK 145 in winter, full pricing here
Day 2: History, The Fortress And Nordnes
- Morning at the Hanseatic Museum and Schotstuene (NOK 160 adult)
- Bergenhus Fortress, free grounds, Rosenkrantz Tower or Hakon’s Hall as a paid add-on
- Afternoon on the Nordnes peninsula
Day 3: Norway In A Nutshell
- Bergen Railway to Voss, bus via the Stalheimskleiva descent to Gudvangen, an electric cruise on the UNESCO Naeroyfjord, then the Flam Railway back and the Bergen Railway home
- NOK 2,698 adult round trip, per visitBergen , about 12 hours, self-guided
Day 4: Ulriken, Troldhaugen And The Aquarium

- Troldhaugen, villa closed for renovation in 2026, confirmed by Kode , garden and museum open roughly May 2 to September 13
- Bergen Aquarium (Akvariet) on Nordnes, roughly NOK 415 adult peak summer
Day 5: Hardangerfjord
- A full day on the Hardangerfjord, roughly 2-3 hours each way, Steinsdalsfossen and Vøringsfossen waterfalls, fruit orchards in season
- Optional RIB speedboat add-on from Norheimsund, roughly NOK 990-1,190 for 60-90 minutes
Day 6: Sandviken And A Shorter Fjord Cruise
- Morning walk through Sandviken, north of Bryggen along the water, well-preserved 18th and 19th-century wooden houses climbing the hillside, a quieter echo of Bryggen’s architecture with a fraction of the crowd
- Afternoon on a shorter fjord cruise direct from Bergen harbor, no rail or bus legs, from roughly NOK 900, the right call after two full 12-hour-adjacent fjord days already on the books
- Do I need a third full fjord day trip? No, and this itinerary deliberately doesn’t schedule one. Two structured fjord days, Naeroyfjord and Hardangerfjord, plus one shorter harbor cruise covers the range without repeating the same 12-hour rail-bus-boat combination three times
- Evening: pick up a bottle at Vinmonopolet (the state alcohol monopoly, the only place selling wine, spirits or beer over roughly 4.75% ABV, closed Sundays) and cook in, self-catering from a Rema 1000 or Kiwi supermarket is the single biggest lever against Bergen’s restaurant prices
Where To Stay
Sandviken or Nordnes for day six’s quieter pace, still a walkable distance from Bryggen. Compare rates on Booking.com .
How much does 6 days in Bergen cost? Budget NOK 1,200-3,000 a day for the city, NOK 2,698 for Nutshell, NOK 1,200-1,900 for Hardangerfjord, and a much lighter NOK 900-1,200 for day six’s cruise and a self-catered dinner.
Tips
- Use day six to do laundry, repack, and actually rest, six days of sightseeing without a genuine easy day is how people arrive home needing a vacation from the vacation
- A Vinmonopolet bottle starts around NOK 150 against NOK 90-130 for one draft beer in a bar, buy once and drink at your accommodation
- One more day to spend? The 7-day itinerary closes with a light departure day instead of packing everything into six
Confirm the harbor cruise departure point the night before, Bergen’s harbor has several piers and not every operator sails from the same one.
