Guided Visits and Tour Options in Abu Dhabi
Travel advisory. Guided visits are running in Abu Dhabi, but the UAE is part of an unsettled regional conflict. Iranian missiles and drones have been fired at the country since 28 February 2026, and debris from intercepted missiles has fallen in several parts of the capital. The UK Foreign Office says strikes and retaliatory attacks have recurred across the region since 8 July and that more are possible. The UK does not advise against travel to the UAE; the US State Department currently places it at Level 3, “Reconsider Travel”. Expect possible flight delays and airspace closures, and keep tour bookings flexible where you can. When your phone sounds a UAE emergency alert, move indoors and stay clear of windows until it is lifted. Never film or share strikes or interceptions, and keep away from security and military sites. Check gov.uk and travel.state.gov before you travel. The options here are described as they operate when conditions are calm.
Tours in Abu Dhabi fall into four kinds: free guided walks run by the sights themselves, audio guides, bus loops and multi-museum passes. The sights are far apart, roughly 15 to 25 km from the Grand Mosque to Saadiyat Island to Yas Island, so any tour that claims to cover all of them is relying on a vehicle. Prices are in dirhams (AED, 3.6725 to the US dollar) and many come from reseller listings, so confirm them with the operator.
Free guided tours at the Grand Mosque
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is an active place of worship, and its cultural tours are offered free of charge every day. They begin on the east side and last about 30 to 60 minutes, in English and Arabic. The mosque’s own advice is to arrive roughly 15 minutes early. Press reports list departures at 11am, 1pm and 5pm, with 11am and 5pm on Fridays, so treat those times as a guide.
Getting in is a separate matter. A visitor entry fee was introduced in September 2026: AED 10 for visitors from outside the UAE, AED 8 for those arriving through tour operators and AED 5 for Emirates ID holders. Press reports say children under 3, visitors aged 60 and over, and people of determination enter free. You can register at the Visitor Centre or book ahead on the official site, but queues and capacity are not guaranteed for walk-ins.
The mosque opens 9am to 8:30pm from Saturday to Thursday. Friday is split into 9am to 11:30am and 2:30pm to 8:30pm. Women need loose, opaque clothing to the ankles, sleeves to the wrists and hair fully covered, and men should wear covered legs and nothing sleeveless or tight. The mosque no longer lends abayas. Food and water stay outside, and photographs are allowed only at marked stops. Details are on the mosque centre’s FAQ page .
Audio guides and palace tours
Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace, has admitted the public since March 2019. Adult tickets are about AED 65 and tickets for ages 4 to 17 about AED 30, with under-4s free. The palace offers an audio guide in five languages, and guided tours are sold separately. Dress must cover knees and shoulders, flip-flops are not allowed and you cannot re-enter once you leave. Hours are published differently in different places, so read the palace’s opening hours page before you go.
Hop-on hop-off buses
A hop-on hop-off service runs two routes that take in the Grand Mosque, Heritage Village, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Masdar City and Yas Island. Reseller listings put a 24-hour ticket at about US$81 to 84. The bus gives an overview, though you will want to leave it at each stop for the real visit. See hop-on hop-off ticket listings .
Museum passes
The Museums Pass, valid since 1 March 2026, bundles Louvre Abu Dhabi with Zayed National Museum and, in some versions, the Natural History Museum. The Louvre alone is AED 70 for adults, and resellers list combinations at about AED 115 to 120. The Louvre’s visit page explains what each pass covers.
From Dubai
The Louvre’s page lists a free Cultural Express from Dubai to Louvre Abu Dhabi and Qasr Al Watan. It leaves from Sheraton Mall of the Emirates at about 9am and returns around 6pm. Departure times can change, so check the schedule before you rely on it.
