Jamaica Family Activities by Age and Height
Travel advice: before booking with children, read the UK FCDO and US State Department pages on Jamaica. The FCDO reports high violent crime in inner-city areas, including parts of Kingston, and the US lists Jamaica at Level 2 with named neighbourhoods to avoid. The FCDO also warns that debris and standing water in hurricane-hit western parishes add to mosquito-borne and water-borne illness. See gov.uk and travel.state.gov .
Family days in Jamaica work best when the activity matches a child’s age and height. The options below are grouped that way, with the rules each attraction sets. Prices are in US dollars unless marked J$ for Jamaican dollars. Pack insect repellent, sunscreen and water shoes, because wet rock is slippery for everyone.
Under about 3 feet tall
Small children are better off at the Dunn’s River Falls park in Ocho Rios than on its waterfall. Children under about 3 feet are reportedly advised not to join the guided climb, but the park has a splash pad and a waterslide for them. A child ticket for non-residents is about US$17 and an adult ticket is about US$25, so confirm both before you go. The park opens daily from 8:30 to 16:00. From Montego Bay it is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road.
YS Falls in St Elizabeth suits younger children. Children from 3 to 15 pay US$16, and the spring pool is shallow, at about 4 feet deep, with lifeguards on duty. Water shoes are required, and diving and jumping are banned. The park is closed on Mondays, on public holidays and for two weeks each September, and its days after June 2026 are not published, so check the rates page . Allow about 1.5 to 1.75 hours from either Montego Bay or Negril.
Ages 3 to 9
The Martha Brae bamboo raft holds two adults and one child aged 3 to 9, so a bigger family needs a second raft. Life vests are supplied, and the 75-minute drift on flat water is calm enough for most children. Rafts leave daily from 9:00 to 16:00, and walk-ins are accepted (operator FAQ ).
Black River Safari runs a boat of about an hour to a crocodile nursery, with child fares for ages 3 to 11 inside a ticket range of about US$10 to US$30. The hurricane damaged the fleet and the nursery, and only half the boats were running in March 2026, so phone ahead (blackriversafari.com ).
At Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios, the SkyExplorer chairlift suits younger riders, while the Rainforest Bobsled has a minimum rider height of 3 ft 8 in, according to a cruise-line listing. Prices are not confirmed.
School age and older
The Bob Marley Museum at 56 Hope Road in Kingston charges US$12 for ages 4 to 12, and children aged 3 and under go free (adults pay US$25). The Home Tour lasts about 75 minutes with a 20-minute film, and the stairs in the house are narrow. Home Tours start every hour between 10:00 and 16:00 on Monday to Saturday. Use a hotel-arranged or JTB-approved taxi in Kingston (tour page ).
Rose Hall Great House near Montego Bay runs a Day and Garden Tour from 9:15 to 16:00, Monday to Saturday, at about US$30 for adults and around US$10 to US$12 for children. It is not wheelchair accessible. The Haunted Night Tour, Wednesday to Saturday with reservations required, is for older children only.
