Travel advisory: Dubai and the wider UAE were caught up in the 2026 regional conflict with Iran. During a roughly six-week phase in early 2026, Iranian drones and missiles struck sites in the UAE, including near Dubai’s airport and port and a hotel on Palm Jumeirah. A ceasefire has held since April, and Dubai’s flights, hotels, and attractions are operating and recovering, though the situation stays fluid (the current risk is mainly to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, not the city). The US State Department has the UAE at “Reconsider Travel” and the UK FCDO does not advise against travel, but both flag the regional situation. Check the current US State Department and UK FCDO advisories before booking, and again before you fly. Everything below is written for a normal visit, for when it’s calm.
Two days is tight, but it’s enough for a taste of Dubai plus one UAE day trip, which is what makes this itinerary different from a pure Dubai city trip: Abu Dhabi, the actual capital, is only about 90 minutes away. If you’d rather spend both days purely in Dubai, use the 2-day Dubai itinerary instead. With a third day, the 3-day plan adds Sharjah or more Dubai time. Book these before you go
- Burj Khalifa timed entry
- A Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Louvre Abu Dhabi day tour or a rental car for the drive
- A place to stay in Downtown Dubai
Day 1: Dubai core
Morning
Burj Khalifa (Level 124/125, roughly AED 149-250, book ahead), then The Dubai Mall (free) for lunch.
Afternoon
The Dubai Aquarium (around AED 120), or a walk over to Al Fahidi Historical District across the creek if you want one taste of Old Dubai before leaving for Abu Dhabi the next day.
Evening
The free Dubai Fountain show (check current showtimes), then an early dinner and early night, since day two starts with a drive.
Day 2: Abu Dhabi day trip
Morning
Depart early for Abu Dhabi (about 90 minutes by car or organized tour). Start at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque; allow 60-90 minutes, dress modestly, and use the robes/scarves provided at the entrance if needed.
Afternoon
Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, or Qasr Al Watan, the Presidential Palace, if art isn’t the priority. A quick walk on the Corniche if time allows.
Evening
Drive back to Dubai for a final dinner, or extend the day with dinner in Abu Dhabi if your flight home isn’t until the next day.
Getting around and where to stay
Base in Downtown Dubai for day one; the Metro Red Line covers everything within walking distance of a station. For the Abu Dhabi day trip, a rental car or an organized tour both work, since there’s no rail link between the two cities; the E11 highway drive is straightforward if you’re self-driving.
One concrete tip: book the Abu Dhabi tour or rental car before you land, not after you arrive in Dubai. On a two-day trip, losing even a morning to logistics cuts the one day trip this itinerary depends on.
