7 Days in Dubai and the UAE

Travel advisory: Dubai and the wider UAE were caught up in the 2026 regional conflict with Iran. During a roughly six-week phase in early 2026, Iranian drones and missiles struck sites in the UAE, including near Dubai’s airport and port and a hotel on Palm Jumeirah. A ceasefire has held since April, and Dubai’s flights, hotels, and attractions are operating and recovering, though the situation stays fluid (the current risk is mainly to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, not the city). The US State Department has the UAE at “Reconsider Travel” and the UK FCDO does not advise against travel, but both flag the regional situation. Check the current US State Department and UK FCDO advisories before booking, and again before you fly. Everything below is written for a normal visit, for when it’s calm.

A full week covers every UAE day trip worth the drive from Dubai: Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Hatta, the east coast around Fujairah, and Al Ain, plus two full days in Dubai itself. Shorter trip? Book these before you go

Day 1: Downtown and the skyline

Morning

Burj Khalifa (Level 124/125, roughly AED 149-250, book ahead), then The Dubai Mall (free).

Afternoon

The Dubai Aquarium (around AED 120).

Evening

The free Dubai Fountain show (check current showtimes) and dinner near Downtown.

Day 2: Old Dubai

Morning

Al Fahidi Historical District, then the abra (about AED 1) to Deira for the Gold Souk and Spice Souk. The Dubai Museum inside Al Fahidi Fort has been closed since around January 2026 for restoration, so plan around it.

Afternoon

Lunch at Ravi in Satwa (Pakistani, open since 1978), then Al Seef.

Evening

Dinner at Arabian Tea House.

Day 3: Abu Dhabi day trip

Morning

Depart early for Abu Dhabi (about 90 minutes). The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque first; allow 60-90 minutes, dress modestly, robes/scarves provided.

Afternoon

Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, or Qasr Al Watan.

Evening

Drive back to Dubai.

Day 4: Sharjah day trip

Morning

Depart for Sharjah (about 25-45 minutes). The Museum of Islamic Civilization first.

Afternoon

The heritage area and souqs; remember Sharjah is dry emirate-wide.

Evening

Back to Dubai for the night.

Day 5: Hatta day trip

Morning

Depart for Hatta (about 90 minutes into the Hajar Mountains). Hatta Dam and its kayaking are the centerpiece.

Afternoon

Hatta Heritage Village, or a hike/mountain-bike loop around the Wadi Hub.

Evening

Drive back to Dubai.

Day 6: East coast / Fujairah day trip

Morning

Depart for the east coast (about 1.5-2 hours). Al-Bidyah Mosque, dated to around 1446 and widely cited as the UAE’s oldest, is a worthwhile stop on the way.

Afternoon

Snoopy Island off Fujairah for snorkeling, or Fujairah Fort for the old town.

Evening

Drive back to Dubai.

Day 7: Al Ain day trip

Morning

Depart for Al Ain (about 1.5-2 hours), the “Garden City.” Al Ain Oasis, a UNESCO-listed working date-palm oasis.

Afternoon

Jebel Hafeet, the scenic mountain drive, for sweeping views before heading back for a final night in Dubai.

Evening

A farewell dinner back in Dubai, since this is the last full day before departure.

Getting around and where to stay

Base in Downtown Dubai for days one and two. For the five day trips, a rental car is genuinely worth it across a full week, since it removes the per-trip tour cost and the return-transfer wait; fuel is cheap and the highways connecting all five destinations are well-signed.

One concrete tip: Sharjah’s short 25-45 minute drive makes it the natural rest day between longer trips, which is why it sits at day four here. Day six and seven (the east coast and Al Ain) are both 90 minutes-plus each way back to back; if that feels like too much driving, swap the Al Ain day for a slower final morning in Dubai instead.
