7 Days in Vancouver: First-Timer Itinerary
A full week keeps this itinerary entirely inside city limits, on purpose, no Whistler, no Victoria, no Squamish. Day 7 is a genuine second wind: a full Seawall loop by bike, Coal Harbour, and a rainy-day museum backup, rather than another rushed neighborhood. Tighter trip? Drop to 6 days or shorter. For the gateway day trips this itinerary deliberately skips, see our Vancouver, British Columbia and Vancouver, Canada guides.

Day 1: Stanley Park And The Seawall
- Canada Line from YVR, about 25 minutes, roughly CAD 9.35 total with the AddFare; check into a downtown or West End hotel
- Seawall, close to 9km, past the totem poles at Brockton Point, then English Bay for sunset
Day 2: Gastown, Chinatown, And Yaletown
- Gastown’s steam clock, better food a block off the strip, then Chinatown’s Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden
- Yaletown for dinner along False Creek
Day 3: Granville Island And Kitsilano
- Granville Island Public Market by Aquabus, a full free morning
- Kitsilano Beach and Kitsilano Pool in the afternoon
Day 4: The North Shore
- SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay, then Lynn Canyon (free) or Capilano (roughly CAD 75-80)
- Grouse Mountain Skyride (roughly CAD 86-89) in the afternoon
Day 5: Museum Of Anthropology And UBC
- Bus 99 or 44 to UBC, about 40-50 minutes; Museum of Anthropology , CAD 26 adult, reopened 13 June 2024
- Nitobe Memorial Garden, roughly CAD 7, free Monday mornings
Day 6: Commercial Drive, Mount Pleasant, And False Creek
- Commercial Drive for morning coffee and a local, non-touristy wander
- Mount Pleasant for lunch, breweries, and coffee roasters
- Science World or the Vancouver Art Gallery, then the False Creek seawall toward Olympic Village in the evening
Is a full week too much time for Vancouver alone? Not if you keep the gateway day trips out of it, which this itinerary does deliberately. Seven days lets you actually rest between big days, add a genuine second Seawall pass, and cover neighborhoods a rushed 3 or 4-day trip skips entirely.
Day 7: The Full Seawall, Coal Harbour, And Departure Prep
- Rent a bike and do the entire Seawall loop in one go this time, roughly 9km and 1.5-2.5 hours depending on stops, a genuinely different experience once you’ve already seen the highlights piecemeal across the week
- Walk or continue by bike into Coal Harbour, the marina district between Stanley Park and downtown, for a quieter waterfront lunch away from the Denman Street crowds
- If it’s raining, swap this for the Museum of Vancouver, a solid indoor option covering the city’s history that the rest of this itinerary doesn’t have room for
- Spend the afternoon on anything you skipped, a second visit to Granville Island, a return trip to English Bay, or last-minute shopping on Robson Street
- A final dinner wherever you liked best this week, and confirm your departure transit timing, the Canada Line back to YVR runs the same roughly CAD 9.35 in reverse minus the AddFare, which only applies to airport-originating trips
Where To Stay
- Downtown/West End: the steady single-base choice for a full week, closest to Stanley Park and Coal Harbour both
- Gastown: closer to the SeaBus and Chinatown
- Kitsilano or Mount Pleasant: worth a mid-week switch if you want two distinct bases across seven days
What does 7 days in Vancouver cost? Budget CAD 120-180 a day mid-range per person across the week, plus roughly CAD 86-89 for Grouse Mountain, CAD 26 for MOA, and CAD 0-80 for your chosen suspension bridge. Day 7 is close to free if you skip the Museum of Vancouver’s admission and just bike and walk.
Things To Know
- CAD is the currency, don’t assume USD parity
- Rain is heaviest October through March, pack a real shell for a full week here
- GST plus PST run about 12% combined on restaurant meals, tip 15-20% pre-tax
Transportation
- Canada Line for the airport both ways; a Compass Card or tap-to-pay covers SkyTrain, SeaBus, and buses
- A weekly transit pattern this dense usually justifies a Compass DayPass (roughly CAD 11.50) on your busiest zone-crossing days
- Bike rental near the Georgia or Denman entrances, roughly CAD 9-18/hr, covers the full Seawall loop on Day 7
Tips
- Don’t schedule anything fixed on Day 7 morning, let the weather decide between the bike loop and the museum backup
- Book Grouse Mountain and Capilano (if chosen) online well ahead of a summer week
- Once the city itself is done, the real gateway trips, Whistler, Victoria, Squamish, start in our Vancouver, British Columbia guide
