4 Days in Vancouver: The BC Day-Trip Base

Day 1: The North Shore, BC Outdoors 20 Minutes Away

  • Capilano Suspension Bridge Park (roughly CAD 75-80) or the free Lynn Canyon Park bridge, same forest-canopy payoff without the ticket
  • Grouse Mountain Skyride in the afternoon, book ahead to skip the gate line
  • Dinner downtown, ease into the trip before the bigger days ahead

Day 2: Sea-to-Sky, Squamish and Whistler

  • Depart by 8am, Highway 99 runs 120-125km and about 2 hours to Whistler, no passenger rail exists, self-drive, shuttle, or a booked tour cover it

  • Whistler Village for lunch and a walk (check whistler.com for events), sightseeing pace, not a ski day
  • Back to Vancouver by early evening

Day 3: Victoria and Butchart Gardens, BC’s Capital

  • BC Ferries Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, 95 minutes, with 3.5-4 hours each way door to door once the drive and terminal legs are counted, an 8+ hour round trip

  • Richmond genuinely runs a stronger, cheaper dim sum scene than downtown Vancouver’s own Chinatown, a real contrarian food tip worth acting on over a familiar Chinatown lunch
  • Walk Steveston’s working fishing harbour and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, then browse the waterfront village on foot, free and unhurried
  • Look for a Fraser Valley cider or wine tasting stop on the way back, BC’s cider and wine scene is a distinct provincial identity worth a mention beyond the usual craft-beer pitch

Where to Stay

  • Downtown or Gastown: closest to the Canada Line, both ferry terminal routes, and the Sea-to-Sky on-ramp
  • Richmond: worth considering for your last night if Steveston runs late and an early flight follows
