Guided and ticketed attractions around San Juan are few enough to compare in one table. All figures are US dollars before Puerto Rico’s 11.5% sales tax, and several operators publish no price at all, so the last column says where to look.

Rum at Casa Bacardí

The visitor centre is open daily from 10:30am to 7pm, except major holidays and private events. Six experiences are listed: the 50-minute Legacy Tour ($40), a 45-minute Spanish-language tour ($65), the 75-minute Mixology Class ($80), The Maestro’s Walk at 90 minutes ($80), the two-hour Founder’s Experience ($125) and the 15-minute Bottle Your Own ($195). Nobody under 18 may join any of them. Reservations are advised, and changes cost nothing up to 24 hours ahead. For the trip itself, the Cataño ferry runs from Pier 2 in Old San Juan, with a fare reported at about $0.50, and a short shuttle or taxi ride follows. Booking is on the official Casa Bacardí page .

Walking tours with a food or drink theme

Flavors Food Tours is based at 206 Calle Tetuán. Its list includes a food tour of up to five stops, a Rum Runners cocktail tour, a 2-hour history walk, and a guided visit to El Morro that starts outside El Convento Hotel. Prices appear only on the booking page, so open the operator’s site before you plan a budget around it.

The Monster zip line

Toro Verde, in Orocovis about 1 to 1.5 hours southwest of the capital, sells The Monster at $114.99. The cable measures 2,530 metres (1.57 miles), riders fly horizontally at up to 95 mph, and closed-toe shoes are required. Guests should arrive 30 minutes before their slot, and a reservation is needed. A zip line and Monster combination is listed at $109.99, with three-ride combinations at $144.99. Kayaks and boats on the east coast

Two operators run the Laguna Grande evening paddle: Kayaking Puerto Rico from $70, and Pure Adventure at $59 plus a $3 DNR fee and tax. Both ban swimming, and nothing may go in the water, sunscreen and insect repellent included. Mosquito Bay on Vieques is guided only too, and the island needs an overnight.

East Island Excursions sells roughly six-hour snorkel trips out of Fajardo. Icacos starts at $110, Vieques at $150 and Culebra at $160 or $170. Weather can change the plan for the day.

The rainforest visitor centre

El Portal is a ticketed centre in El Yunque where children 15 and under are free. The road corridor around it costs nothing. Several trails, including the one to La Mina Falls, are closed.
