A quieter option covers the craft behind southern Thailand’s signature wooden longtail boats, known locally as ruea hang yao, including the spiritual significance of the colorful silk ribbons tied to the prow, worked through model-scale boat building rather than a full-size hull. It’s a niche session compared to the cooking and batik classes, so confirm a specific date is running before planning a day around it.

  • Book cooking classes a day or two ahead in high season, December to February; market-run sessions have a hard headcount limit.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting wax or curry paste on; workshops rarely provide aprons that fully cover you.
  • Search Krabi Town hotels on Agoda if a batik or cooking class is the reason you’re basing there rather than Ao Nang.
  • Entry paperwork applies regardless of what you’ve booked: file the Digital Arrival Card online within the 3 days before arrival, a rule confirmed by the U.S. Embassy in Thailand after the old paper TM6 slip was retired in May 2025.
