Krabi Shows and Events: Planning Your Nights
Nobody sells tickets to Krabi’s best evening. You find it by walking into a closed-off street in the provincial capital on a Friday, following the smoke from the seafood grills towards a stage where a local school dance troupe is halfway through its set. Planning a night out here is mostly about timing and transport, so here is what runs when, and how to get home afterwards.

A Krabi Town night
The walking street is the province’s most local show. Folk performers, acoustic acts and school dance troupes take turns on the central stage, and stalls around it sell southern Thai curries, seafood skewers and coconut pancakes at about ฿50 to ฿100 a dish. Entry is free.
The catch is distance. The walking street is 17 km from the Ao Nang beachfront, and a songthaew there costs roughly ฿60, but you should ask the driver on the way in how late the last one runs back. Ao Nang after dark
On the beach side, the night markets, including the Landmark Night Market, run street food and souvenir stalls alongside cocktail bars and live reggae, and fire spinners perform on the sand. If you are staying on Railay, remember the peninsula has no road: the shared longtail back costs ฿100 by day and up to ฿150 after dark, and boats need enough passengers to leave, so agree a return time before you cross. Songkran
For three days from 13 April, Ao Nang and Krabi Town turn into one long water fight. Put your phone and passport in a sealed dry bag and wear clothes you do not mind soaking. At the temples the festival is quieter: people pour scented water over Buddha statues and make merit, and visitors should watch from the edge with water guns put away.
Loy Krathong
When the November moon is full, crowds float krathongs, small decorated baskets carrying candles and incense, on the sea at Ao Nang and on the Krabi River, as an offering to the water goddess. Visitors take part alongside locals. The date follows the lunar calendar, so check it for your year.
Verdict: Loy Krathong is the one Krabi event worth moving your travel dates for. It is calm and free, and it falls in November, after the May to October monsoon has ended.
Before a festival trip
Book rooms early if your dates include either festival. Under the current visa exemption, many passports get 30 days in Thailand, as the FCDO entry rules explain. You also need the free digital arrival card, filed on the Thai immigration TDAC site within the 3 days before arrival; ignore paid lookalike sites.
