Krabi Day Trips for First and Second Visits
Krabi sells three different island days that people often mix up: Four Islands, Hong, and Phi Phi. Choosing between them gets easier once you know whether this is your first trip or your second. The first visit rewards the short, easy circuit, and the return visit can take on the longer, rougher boats.
First visit: the Four Islands circuit
This is the classic starter. A traditional longtail boat visits Koh Poda, Chicken Island, Koh Tub and the beach below the Phra Nang cave. At low tide a white sandbar links Chicken, Tub and Mor islands, which is the sight to time your day around, so ask the operator when the tide turns. Snorkelling happens off Koh Poda. Listings usually include a lunch box and snorkel gear, and a national park fee is payable on top. The trip is a half day, which leaves the afternoon free. You can look at Four Islands tours on Viator to compare departure times.
First visit, second day: one inland morning
If the sea is rough, or you want a break from boats, head inland. Hot Springs Waterfall (฿200 adults, ฿100 children) and Emerald Pool (฿400 and ฿200, inside a wildlife sanctuary) are cash only. Khao Phanom Bencha National Park at ฿100 and ฿50 is the quietest.
Return visit: Hong Islands
Hong is a full day by speedboat or longtail. The star is the lagoon on Koh Hong, entered through a narrow cleft in the cliffs, and the viewpoint stairs on the island give a view across hundreds of limestone islets. The climb is steep, so wear proper shoes. The national park fee is payable at the landing, and the amount depends on the island and the season.
Return visit: Phi Phi
Phi Phi is the longest day by speedboat from Krabi, with Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach and snorkelling at Viking Cave. Maya Bay is usually closed to landings from 1 August to 30 September. It reopens on 1 October, subject to weather, so confirm with the operator. Boats do not enter the bay, visitors walk a boardwalk from a pontoon on the far side, and visits are timed. Swimming is banned. During the closure the tours still run and view the bay from the water. A marine park fee is payable on top of the tour price.
Nearby Phang Nga
James Bond Island and Koh Panyee are in Phang Nga province, north of Krabi, so allow for the extra transfer time if you add them.
Rules for every boat day
The monsoon runs from May to October, and operators cancel boats when the sea is rough. Do not book a morning boat on the day of an international flight. Wear a life jacket, and refuse a boat that looks overloaded. For the entry rules, visa-exempt visitors may stay up to 30 days, and the TDAC arrival card must be filed online within 3 days before landing, via the official Thai immigration site .
Pair this with the Krabi attraction tours page or the two-day Krabi itinerary .
Tip: book the Four Islands first, and only add Hong or Phi Phi once you know how you handle small boats.
