Krabi Activities at Every Budget in Baht
Krabi can cost almost nothing or a month’s travel budget, and the same limestone scenery sits at every price. These are the activities sorted by what they cost in Thai baht, so you can build days around your wallet instead of around a tour desk. Keep some cash handy, because longtail fares, songthaews and several park gates take only banknotes.
Free to ฿250
The cheapest days in Krabi are also among the best. Walk the sand at Ao Nang or the pine-shaded shore of Nopparat Thara at sunset and watch longtails bob against the karst. Klong Muang and Tubkaek, north of Ao Nang, offer wide quiet beaches with the Hong islands on the horizon. In Krabi Town, 17 km inland, the Chao Fah riverfront promenade is free, and the weekend walking street runs Friday to Sunday, 17:00 to 22:00, with stalls where a dish costs ฿50 to ฿100.
Moving around is cheap too. A songthaew between Krabi Town and Ao Nang is about ฿60 per person, and the airport shuttle to Ao Nang is around ฿150. Railay can only be reached by boat. The shared longtail from Ao Nang or Ao Nam Mao is ฿100 per person each way, higher after dark, and Diamond Cave on the peninsula is ฿100 for adults and ฿50 for children. The grounds of Wat Tham Suea, the Tiger Cave Temple, are free, though the summit stairs, about 1,260 of them, are a serious workout.
฿300 to ฿1,200
The middle of the ladder is where the signature outings sit. Gate fees are paid in cash on the day: Emerald Pool is usually quoted at ฿400 for adults and ฿200 for children (some sources give ฿200 for adults) and lies inside a wildlife sanctuary, Hot Springs Waterfall is ฿200 and ฿100, and Khao Phanom Bencha National Park is ฿100 and ฿50. Add a beachfront Thai massage at roughly ฿300 to ฿500, a half-day sea kayak through the Ao Thalane mangroves, or a longtail circuit of the Four Islands. Listings for the kayak and the islands trip commonly sit in the several-hundred to ฿1,200 range, with any national park fee payable on top. You can compare kayak and island tours on GetYourGuide before you pick a day.
Railay also has beginner rock-climbing courses, and half-day sessions with an instructor are typically listed at about ฿1,000 to ฿1,500 including gear.
฿1,400 and up
Full-day speedboat trips to the Hong Islands or Phi Phi, two-tank dives at Shark Point and Anemone Reef, and a private longtail for the day all land here. Park fees are separate and national park fee payable at the landing. A charter works out cheaper per head when six people share it, and it lets you choose empty beaches over crowded ones. Dining at The Grotto, the cave restaurant at Rayavadee on Phra Nang Beach, is the splurge at the very top, so reserve through the resort.
If elephants are on your list, choose observation only. Reputable sanctuaries do not offer rides.
Rules that apply at every budget
The currency is the baht. Visa-exempt visitors from many countries, including the US and UK, may stay up to 30 days, and the Thailand Digital Arrival Card must be completed online within 3 days before you arrive, at the official TDAC site . The monsoon runs from May to October, boats can be cancelled at short notice and passengers should wear a life jacket. Cannabis is for medical use only, so skip it. See Krabi day trips for the three island products, or the two-day Krabi itinerary if you need a ready-made plan. The Tourism Authority of Thailand lists current events.
Tip: spend the first day at the free end, then decide how much of the ladder you want to climb.
